Famous comedian Jerry Seinfeld recently expressed that he misses the classic type of “dominant masculinity” that he observed when he was growing up. Seinfeld made the comments during a recent appearance on the podcast “Honestly with Bari Weiss.”
Seinfeld explained that during his youth, he always admired the variety of masculine role models that American culture presented, seeking to one day become a “real man.” However, he never accomplished the feat.”I really thought when I was in that era, again, it was [John F. Kennedy], it was Muhammad Ali, it was Sean Connery, Howard Cosell, you can go all the way down there. That’s a real man,” he said.
The star of the legendary 90s show, “Seinfeld” explained that he could never live up to the archetype set forth by those figures because being a comedian is inherently a “childish pursuit.” The comic specified that he does not condone any “toxic” masculinity but praises the idea of a “real man.” He stated, “But I miss a dominant masculinity. Yeah, I get the toxic thing. Thank you, thank you. But still, I like a real man.”
Seinfeld also claimed that it feels like society has lost a sense of “hierarchy” that keeps affairs in order, suggesting any trace of this has been “vaporized” in the modern era. “But there’s another element there that I think is the key element, and that is an agreed-upon hierarchy, which I think is absolutely vaporized in today’s moment,” he said. “And I think that is why people lean on the horn and drive in the crazy way that they drive because we have no sense of hierarchy.”
The American Tribune reported on other recent comments from Jerry Seinfeld, where he blasted political correctness and its impact on comedy. Seinfeld indicated that the “extreme left” has brought about the “end of comedy” through its radical social agenda.
He said, “It used to be, you would go home at the end of the day, most people would go, “Oh, ‘Cheers’ is on. Oh, ‘M*A*S*H’ is on. Oh, ‘Mary Tyler Moore’ is on. ‘All in the Family’ is on.” You just expected, there’ll be some funny stuff we can watch on TV tonight.”
“Well, guess what — where is it? This is the result of the extreme left and P.C. crap, and people worrying so much about offending other people,” Seinfeld added. He further noted that this has increased the demand for standup comedy which is not so policed. “Now they’re going to see stand up comics because we are not policed by anyone. The audience polices us. We know when we’re off track. We know instantly and we adjust to it instantly,” he said.
The legendary comedian illustrated how wokeness in the television industry effectively ruined comedy. He slammed the idea of running a script through multiple committees seeking their input on the content. “But when you write a script and it goes into four or five different hands, committees, groups — ‘Here’s our thought about this joke.’” He continued, “Well, that’s the end of your comedy.”
