Vice presidential candidate JD Vance recently predicted that the traditionally Democratic-led state of Michigan would join a Republican “red wall.” Vance claimed that Michigan voters have grown tired of the left’s economic policies that have had disastrous effects on the country. Trump’s running mate also sounded off on a “generation of failed leadership,” claiming it would drive voters to the GOP.
“Thanks to a generation of failed leadership, Michigan has seen thousands of manufacturing jobs disappear,” Vance said to the crowd in Byron Center, a town just south of Grand Rapids. “We have got to do better,” he emphasized. He continued, “Michigan, people used to call it a blue wall state. I think Michigan is a red wall state now because people are sick of losing their livelihoods and losing their jobs.”
Vance maintained that action must be taken now to ensure a future for the up-and-coming generation of Americans. “Americans, especially young people, are becoming paupers in their own country,” he said. “If we don’t do better, our young generation, they’re not going to own anything, they’re not going to have anything, they’re going to be renters in the country that their parents and grandparents built. Inflation is a disaster.”
The Ohio senator noted that people have historically viewed Michigan as a Democratic stronghold. However, Vance believes the Great Lake State will see a massive shift to the right. “Michigan, people used to call it a blue wall state. I think Michigan is a red wall state now because people are sick of losing their livelihoods and losing their jobs,” he added.
Vance highlighted the importance of domestic industry in the Michigan economy. “Trust me, I talk to a lot of UAW workers,” Vance stated. “They want a president who fights for their jobs. They want a president who will shut down this garbage at the border. They want a president who will stop sending American money to buy Chinese-made cars.”
Discussing the rampant inflation that has plagued Americans throughout the Biden-Harris administration, Vance dismissed reports that inflation is cooling while many still struggle to make ends meet. “I think the crowd reaction says it all. When they say inflation is down, they mean from a base line where groceries are already 30% more expensive than they were when Donald Trump was president,” he said.
Kamala Harris outlined her economic agenda while visiting Michigan recently, stating, “When I’m president, it will be my Day One priority to fight to bring down prices, to take on the big corporations that engage in illegal price gouging, to take on corporate landlords that unfairly raise rents on working families, to take on Big Pharma and cap the cost of prescription drugs for all Americans.”
The American Tribune recently reported on the Trump campaign blasting Vice President Harris for advocating socialist-style “price controls.” Trump said, “She’s running on the Maduro plan. we call it the Maduro plan, like something straight out of Venezuela or the Soviet Union. This announcement is an admission that her economic policies have totally failed, and caused really a catastrophe for our country and beyond that, a catastrophe in the world.”
