Vice presidential candidate JD Vance recently took a jab at Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz over the criticism he has received regarding his military service record. Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate has faced several controversies, accusing him of lying about his rank and leaving the National Guard as his unit was about to deploy to Iraq.
Before a recent rally in Wisconsin, Vance took the opportunity to call out Walz on his record using an arcade game. Standing in front of a buck hunting game, holding the toy shotgun, the vice presidential candidate suggested it was the closest Walz had been to seeing “real combat.” Vance said, “Hey guys, JD Vance here. Playing a little Buck Hunter before a rally in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, also known as the closet Tim Walz has ever gotten to real combat.”
Users on social media cheered on Vance, with one user writing, “JD VANCE IS HILARIOUS!” Another user said, “He is really growing on me… quick wit means quick mind.” Throughout the campaign, supporters have praised Vance’s ability to think quickly on his feet, offering witty comments remarks, such as the one in this video, while maintaining professionalism.
The American Tribune has extensively reported on Vance’s comments regarding the legitimacy of his opponent’s claims about his military service. Trump’s running mate recently addressed stolen valor allegations against Walz after the governor claimed to have carried weapons “in war” despite retiring before his unit deployed to Iraq.
For context, Walz previously claimed, “I spent 25 years in the Army and I hunt. I’ve been voting for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks. We can research the impacts of gun violence. We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war, are only carried in war.”
Vance maintained that he answered the call to serve his country when he was asked to do so, unlike Walz. “When the United States of America asked me to go to Iraq, to serve my country, I did it. I did what they asked me to do, and I did it honorably. And I’m very proud of that service. When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq, you know what he did? He dropped out of the Army and allowed his unit to go without him,” he said.
Continuing, the Ohio senator said, “He was making a point about gun control. He said we shouldn’t allow weapons ‘that I used in war’ to be on America’s streets. Well, I wonder, Tim Walz, when were you ever in war? When was this? What was this weapon that you carried into war, given that you abandoned your unit right before they went to Iraq? And he has not spent a day in a combat zone.”
Further blasting the accusations of stolen valor, he said, “What bothers me about Tim Walz is the stolen valor garbage. Do not pretend to be something that you’re not. And if he wants to criticize me for getting an Ivy League education, I’m proud of the of the fact that my Mamaw supported me, that I was able to make something of myself. I’d be ashamed if I was him and I lied about my military service like he did.”
