Jasmine Crockett has Total Meltdown After ICE Agents Defend Themselves from Illegal Alien Attacker

Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) jumped to attack ICE after a federal immigration officer shot and killed a Mexican national in Houston who authorities say rammed an ICE vehicle and tried to run over an officer. The Texas Democrat demanded that ICE be “held accountable” and called for a full investigation after the shooting. Her response immediately drew pushback from critics who pointed to the Department of Homeland Security’s claim that the man had used his vehicle as a weapon.

The shooting happened Tuesday morning during a targeted immigration enforcement operation in Houston, Texas. The man who died was identified as 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national who had lived in the United States for decades without legal status. Federal officials said officers were attempting to stop him when the confrontation turned deadly.

According to DHS, Salgado Araujo attempted to evade arrest during the operation. The agency said he rammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle, ignored multiple verbal commands, and then “weaponized his vehicle” in an attempt to run over an ICE officer. DHS said the officer fired in self-defense, striking Salgado Araujo, who was later taken to a hospital and died from his injuries.

DHS said in its statement on X that the incident happened at approximately 6:50 a.m. CT on July 7th. The agency described Salgado Araujo as “an illegal alien from Mexico” and said the shooting came after he “rammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle” and refused to comply with commands. DHS said the FBI would investigate the potential assault on a law enforcement officer while DHS would investigate the officer-involved shooting.

Crockett responded the next day by posting about Salgado Araujo and demanding action against ICE. “Lorenzo Salgado Araujo should be here with us today,” Crockett wrote. “No family should have to spend the day after their father was killed demanding answers. ICE must be held accountable. We deserve a full, independent, transparent investigation — now.”

The post included a video of Salgado Araujo’s family speaking after his death. Crockett also wrote that her “heart is with his family, his loved ones, and the entire community.” The message fit Crockett’s broader record of attacking ICE, but critics saw it as another example of a Democrat rushing to blame federal immigration officers before the full facts were known.

Reuters reported that ICE described Salgado Araujo as a Mexican national and “illegal alien” who attempted to evade arrest during a “targeted enforcement operation.” The outlet also reported that Reuters could not independently verify his immigration status or the exact circumstances of the shooting. According to the ICE account cited by Reuters, the officer fired after Salgado Araujo allegedly tried to run over an officer with the vehicle.

Salgado Araujo’s family has disputed the federal account and demanded an independent investigation. CBS News reported that his son, Ronaldo Salgado, said his father had no criminal convictions and had spent decades working in construction. At a news conference, the family described him as a husband, father, and longtime worker who had been trying to secure legal status.

The family’s account and DHS’s account quickly turned the shooting into a political fight. Crockett presented the case as another reason ICE should face accountability. DHS presented it as a case of an illegal alien refusing commands and attacking officers with a vehicle during a lawful enforcement operation. That gap left plenty of room for the same fight that now follows almost every major ICE incident.

Critics on X were quick to push back against Crockett’s framing. The DHS post itself drew widespread circulation from conservatives and immigration hawks, who pointed to the agency’s allegation that Salgado Araujo had rammed a federal vehicle and tried to run over an officer. One conservative account described the case as an illegal immigrant dying after attempting to strike ICE agents with his vehicle and added, “Pray for our ICE.”

Another X account pushed back on a gun-control group that had posted about Salgado Araujo’s death by writing, “Weird how you left that part out,” referring to the claim that he had allegedly tried to strike an ICE agent. The same argument showed up across conservative replies to Crockett and other Democrats: critics said the left was treating the shooting like a police scandal while skipping over the part where DHS says the officer was under attack.

Crockett’s anti-ICE posture is not new. Her campaign website states that ICE has become a “rogue police force” and accuses “masked ICE agents” of killing people in the streets and disappearing neighbors without due process. The page also says Crockett has voted against ICE funding, backed legislation targeting ICE practices, and supported measures meant to restrict the agency’s operations.

That history made her reaction to the Houston shooting less surprising. Crockett has repeatedly cast ICE as an out-of-control federal force, while the Trump administration and its supporters argue that agents are carrying out standard immigration law in dangerous conditions. The FBI and DHS investigations will determine what federal officials say happened in the final moments before the officer fired. Until then, Crockett’s post has already become another flashpoint in the immigration fight.
