Speaking during an interview with Fox Business host Elizabeth McDonald on Monday, February 17, Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett sounded off on former special counsel Jack Smith, the one who headed the Biden Department of Justice’s multiple investigations into and cases against then-former President Donald Trump, saying that he should be investigated by Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The basis of Jarrett’s fury and commentary was the revelation of what he described as a “cozy arraignment” with outside attorneys before he departed from the DOJ. Namely, a disclosure from Smith on Friday, February 14 revealed that he received a whopping $140,000 in pro bono legal services from a prestigious Washington, D.C. law firm named Covington & Burling. Notably, those free services from the high-cost firm came prior to his departure from the DOJ.
AG Bondi, for reference, has set up a working group to probe “weaponization by Special Counsel Jack Smith and his staff who spent more than $50 million targeting President Trump, and the prosecutors and law enforcement personnel who participated in the unprecedented raid on President Trump’s home.”
In any case, Jarrett was asked by McDonald whether the revelation of the free services Smith got from Covington & Burling raises any questions, whether they be of a legal or ethical nature. Jarrett told her that Smith did, in fact, create a situation in which he could be in major legal trouble.
He told McDonald, on that point, “Yeah, I mean, just taking this gift, for example, from a firm aligned with Democrats only fortifies the evidence of political bias and maybe corruption that drove the lawfare campaign against Trump. This cozy arrangement, I think, demands further disclosure, more investigation.”
Continuing, he questioned why Covington & Burling would have provided Smith with those free services, saying, “Was it related to the two prosecutions he brought against Trump? Did Garland know about it? The ethics are highly questionable whether it was sanctioned or not. It’s exactly why I argued in a column on Fox News that Jack Smith should be investigated by the incoming DOJ.”
Jarrett further added, commenting on what AG Bondi could do, “In fact, Pam Bondi has now launched that probe. If lawfare prosecutors like Smith manipulated the law to damage Trump’s political campaign, that is a criminal violation of his civil rights under the federal codes. Prosecutors could be prosecuted.” Watch him here:

Hammering Jack Smith in a farewell message, Trump said, in a post on Truth Social, “The Stench of Deranged Jack Smith and his thugs is GONE. They were sent packing after spending over $100,000,000, destroying the lives of many people and families, who will never be the same again. Deranged Jack accomplished nothing, except to show what complete losers my political opponents are!!!”
In a second post, gloating over the fact that Jack Smith was gone from the DOJ and no longer able to conduct the investigation, which he referred to as a “Witch Hunt,” the president-elect said, “Deranged Jack Smith was fired today by the DOJ. He is a disgrace to himself, his family, and his Country. After spending over $100,000,000 on the Witch Hunt against TRUMP, he left town empty handed!”
