Recently, former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines filed a lawsuit against the NCAA alongside 15 other current and former athletes, claiming the organization violates Title IX through its transgender policy. Gaines, who became a fierce advocate for the protection of women’s sports after competing against the transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, explained how it was time to fight back against the NCAA over its policies.
Gaines emphasized that it is past due for someone to file a lawsuit against the collegiate organization, claiming the path to victory in this piece of the culture war is through the legal system. The former collegiate swimmer noted that she sought to spearhead this legal initiative with over a dozen other athletes.
“It was time someone took action. I thought to myself for so long, ‘I wish someone would sue,’” the former University of Kentucky swimmer stated on “OutKick The Morning.” “That’s how we win, someone has to sue – never once occurring to me that I could be a part of this, I could really help spearhead this along with ICONS and 15 other athletes that signed onto this lawsuit.”
Taking a page out of the left’s playbook, Gaines noted how liberals have no problem incessantly filing lawsuits against causes and political adversaries that stand in the way of their agenda. She specifically cited New York Attorney General Letitia James, who led the civil fraud case against former President Donald Trump in which he was ordered to pay a fine of nearly $454 million.
“I realized, [it is] us. We can fight back. It’s what the left does so well. The other side, they throw around lawsuits like it’s nothing. The ACLU has no problem suing. [Attorney General] Letitia James in New York, of course, she’s sue-happy. … The other side has no problem suing.”
The female sports activist further pointed out “de-transitioners” who are suing members of the medical and healthcare industry for “taking advantage” of them. “It is time that we fight back, and we’ve seen this. We’ve seen a slew of de-transitioners who are now suing their doctors or their health care providers or state statutes that allowed them to be deceived and taken advantage of.”
Gaines offered a hopeful message that the “tides are going to turn” in favor of conservatives in this hot-button political issue that grips our culture. She ultimately claimed that the woke gender movement is corrupt and driven by financial interests.
“The tides are going to turn because ultimately this movement is driven by dollar signs. It is driven by money. People act out of a fear of not getting sued and by taking the actions that we have now. We are showing them that the other side is just as willing and just as capable to sue as they believe the trans rights activists would be to sue,” she said.
In 2022, Riley Gaines competed on behalf of the University of Kentucky, where she tied for fifth place with transgender swimmer Lia Thomas from the University of Pennsylvania in the 200-meter freestyle final at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship. The lawsuit brought forth by Gaines and others was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
