Following former President Donald Trump’s landslide win in the 2024 presidential election, liberal voters on social media have not handled Vice President Kamala Harris’s loss well. Democrats on social media have had meltdowns after realizing that former President Donald Trump will return to the White House and serve as the 47th president.
Aside from Trump winning, liberals have lamented the forces in American culture that supported him, such as prominent podcaster Joe Rogan endorsing him on the eve of the election and Elon Musk campaigning hard for Trump in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania. After Trump swept through the swing states and attained a monumental landslide victory, some have claimed that “sexism,” “xenophobia,” and other leftist buzzwords “won” the election.
One person, clearly upset with Trump’s victory, wrote on X, “It’s not just that Trump won. It’s that Joe Rogan, Dana White and Brett Favre won. Jailed insurrectionists won. The Alitos and the Thomases won. Vladimir Putin won. Racism won. Misogyny won. Sexism won. Global warming won. Xenophobia won. Most of all: Fear Won. That’s what hurts.”
Furthermore, conservative spaces on social media have shared endless videos of liberals filming their hysterical reactions to former President Trump retaking the White House. Some conservatives have pointed to the overtly hostile reporting from the mainstream media, that has led many Americans to adopt delusional and unhinged opinions toward Trump and MAGA Republicans.
Before the election, The American Tribune reported on comments from the famous political commentator Mark Halperin, who predicted that Trump’s victory would lead to the “greatest mental health crisis in the history of the country.” Based on the social media response to Kamala Harris’s loss in the election, it would appear this is underway.
“Let’s say Trump wins three weeks from today. What happens? … As you said, a lot of Democrats believe that Trump becoming president is the worst thing that could ever happen,” former Fox News host Tucker Carlson asked Halperin during a recent podcast appearance. Halperin replied, explaining that many Americans will not be able to cope with the prospect of Trump returning to the White House.
Halperin said, “I say this not flippantly. I think it will be the cause of the greatest mental health crisis in the history of the country.” He further explained that many will reject the nation’s leadership under Trump. “Tens of millions of people will question their connection to the nation … to other human beings … to their vision to what their future for them and their children could be like. And that will require an enormous amount of access to mental health professionals.”
“I think there’ll be some violence. I think there’ll be workplace fights, fights at kids’ birthday parties … protests that will turn violent.” The journalist added, “I think it will be less anger and more a failure to understand how it could happen. Like the death of a child… Something that is so traumatic that it’s impossible for even the most mentally healthy person to process and incorporate it into their daily life.”
