Speaking during the Thursday, July 25, broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” former President Donald Trump spoke about the abrupt exit that President Joe Biden has made from the 2024 presidential race, saying that he sees the abrupt removal of President Biden from the ticket as a sort of “coup” against him.
As background, on Sunday, July 21, President Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race though he will be remaining in the office of president. He posted on X, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
Continuing, he abruptly threw his support behind Kamala, saying, “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
Former President Trump, commenting on what he sees as having happened, argued to the “Fox & Friends” hosts that the removal of Biden was not his stepping down out of worries for his health or something else, as it looks like, but rather a “coup.” He said, “I hink it was a coup. They didn’t want him running. He was way down in the polls, and they thought he was going to lose.”
He added that it was, in his view, about winning, not the state of the presidency, saying, “They went to him, and they said, ‘you can’t win the race,’ which I think is true, unless I did something very foolish, which I wasn’t going to do, and I think he was so far down, and they said, ‘You’re not going to win, and you’re not in great shape, and you did poorly in the debate.’ I think the debate started everything.”
Continuing, he said, “I know a lot of people on the other side, too, that they went, and they forced him out between Pelosi and Obama and some others that you see on television. It was interesting,” he continued. “I’d watch them on television, and they act so nice. ‘Oh, yes, we loved you — we loved you behind the scenes.’ I know for a fact they were brutal.”
Watch him discuss that matter here:
Trump also said, during that “Fox & Friends” appearance, speaking about the need for those demonstrators who burned the flag to be properly punished for their horrid treatment of the flag, “Rarely have we seen anything like this. And I think you should get a one-year jail sentence if you do anything to desecrate the American flag. Now people will say, ‘Oh, it’s unconstitutional.’ Those are stupid people. Those are stupid people that say that.” He added, “We have to work in Congress to get a one-year jail sentence. When they’re allowed to stomp on the flag and put lighter fluid on the flag and set it afire — when you’re allowed to do that — you get a one-year jail sentence, and you’ll never see it again.”
He then said, “And all over the world, Putin and President Xi of China, all over the world they’re watching this. Kim Jong Un, he looks at us like we’re a bunch of babies.” He added, “They see that, that wouldn’t happen in their countries. It’s impossible for that to happen in their countries. We look so bad to the world. That was a disgraceful display yesterday.”
