Recently, Israel reportedly killed a top commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Monday while executing airstrikes in the Syrian Capital of Damascus. According to reports from Iranian-state media, high-ranking general Reza Mousawi was killed in the airstrikes.
Israeli officials declined to comment on the foreign-based reports. “I won’t comment on foreign reports, these or others in the Middle East,” stated IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari. “The Israeli military obviously has a job to protect the security interests of Israel.”
Al Jazeera correspondent Ali Hashem reported on the news from Lebanon, “Mousavi is one of the oldest IRGC commanders in Syria and Lebanon, he’s been functioning in this area since the 80s.” Hashem added, “According to our sources, Mousavi was the target of several assassination attempts by Israel. However, this was the time when the assassination attempt succeeded. The Israelis accuse him of being an instrumental figure within the network of arms smuggling from Iran to Syria, to Iraq to Syria, and to end with Hezbollah in Lebanon, and also as very influential within what Iran calls the Axis of Resistance.”
Iranian officials have responded to the death of Mousawi, promising to retaliate against Israel. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stated, “This act is a sign of the Zionist regime’s frustration and weakness in the region for which it will certainly pay the price.” The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responded to the airstrike, “The usurper and savage Zionist regime will pay for this crime.” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani, “Iran reserves the right to take necessary measures to respond to this action at the appropriate time and place.”
The American Tribune recently reported on an update on the war between Israel and Hamas, where Israeli forces destroyed Hamas’ “Elite Quarter” and a network of underground tunnels. The Israeli Defense Force commented on the recent military procedure, highlighting the strategic victory.
“The IDF has uncovered Hamas’ largest tunnel so far–only 400m from the Erez humanitarian crossing. This tunnel was utilized by Hamas to launch a deadly attack and destroy the crossing, a vital route for Gazans commuting to Israel for their livelihoods,” the IDF stated on social media.
IDF Spokesperson Rear Admiral commented on the accomplishment, stating, “Today, we destroyed a strategic terror tunnel network in the Hamas Elite Quarter in the heart of Gaza City. This is a complex network of tunnels connecting hideout apartments to various facilities and bunkers of senior members of the Hamas terrorist organization.”
Reportedly, the tunnels served as a strategic foothold for terrorists and soldiers. The IDF further expounded upon the Israeli efforts to destroy the network of tunnels, where they simultaneously eliminated hundreds of enemy combatants.
“For several weeks, the troops operated in Rimal, where ‘Palestine Square’ is located – an area surrounded by buildings that served as command-and-control centers, terror tunnel shafts, and strategic buildings belonging to the organization. The forces eliminated about 600 terrorists from the ground and the air and uncovered a large tunnel network that connects hideouts, bureaus, and leader’s apartments.”
