Co-hosts Jessica Tarlov and Jesse Watters recently engaged in a heated argument about President Joe Biden’s controversial move to pardon Hunter Biden in the remaining weeks of his term. The exchange between the co-hosts, commenting on the morality of the pardon and the widespread speculation about its conspicuous details, sparked debates among conservatives on social media.
During the segment Tarlov said, “I don’t disagree with it. He should have just always said, ‘maybe I don’t know.’ I have to see where the chips fall on this.” She continued, “But one of the messages that came out of the election was that voters don’t think Donald Trump is a unique threat to democracy. They don’t care about norms or any of the things that Democrats were campaigning on. And I think that Joe Biden just essentially said on my way out, I I don’t care anymore, and I’m just going to protect my kid.”‘
Watters chimed in, “Everybody knew he was going to pardon his son, even Jessica knew. But you didn’t expect Joe Biden to lie. The man’s lied his whole career. Jessica, politicians lie. I mean, Democrats are now trying to wrap their heads around the fact that we’re like, well, maybe we’re not the party of moral superiority. Maybe we’re not the party of Democrat ideals and principles. How many lies can you guys take they lied about the laptop, the lab leak, the coup, now the pardon. Even Democrats are saying, I don’t feel so great about these guys saying that they’re the party of principle anymore.”
The prime-time host also drew attention to eye-catching terms of Hunter’s sweeping pardon. “A blanket pardon to 14…just when the portfolio for Ukraine got handed to the big guy. What’s that about Jessica?” he asked. “Why would he need to go back that far? Think about it, this whole set-up that they had was a big money laundering scheme. He’d go around the world sell access to his dad, and then the FBI and the CIA would look to see who was trying to scam the US government,” he said.
Popular conservative commentator on X Karli Bonne shared a clip of the segment, writing, “Jesse Watters goes off!!! This is so good.” One user commented under the post, applauding Watters for his remarks, “💯% accurate take by Jesse. And we’ve all known the same for years,” they wrote.
Another user pushed back on Tarlov’s take, writing, “I guess @JessicaTarlov has forgotten the House impeached Biden and Senator Schumer refused to bring that impeachment to the Senate floor setting a bad precedent for democrats future impeachments of Trump on nothing more than a phone call when it is clearly Biden’s corruption in Ukraine.”
Others made claims about the supposed implications of the pardon, where one user suggested it could backfire on the Biden family. “Now Hunter can be forced to testify against Joe & Jim if the DOJ wants to investigate Joe & Jim Biden connections with Ukraine & Russia bribery schemes. The pardon took away his 5th Amendment right. If he refuses to testify the Bidens, he could be held in contempt & put in jail,” they wrote.
