Bubba Wallace, the African-American NASCAR driver who is infamous in conservative circles for getting the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) involved in investigating a garage door rope that he claimed looked like a noose as a “hate crime”, which promptly led to the infliction of wokeness upon NASCAR, is back in the news. The FBI found that he had not been the victim of a hate crime and that the garage pull rope had been there for a long while before he arrived. This time, it is for an Independence Day message about changing America.
As background, while Wallace has refrained from taking the harder-line far-left stances that his contemporaries in other sports, such as basketball and football have, many think he is indicative of the attempt to corporatize things that MAGA conservatives enjoy to make them less appealing to MAGA and more appealing to the left, as shown by the transformation of NASCAR that occured under the banner of making it less “offensive”, such as by banning Confederate flags, in the wake of the fake noose incident.
In any case, Wallace raised eyebrows with his July 4th post on X, in which he commented on changing America and how that change is what has made America great rather than anything that was here from the beginning. He began, “250 years. This country is beautiful, complicated, and a work in progress. Which is a massive privilege, and is exactly what makes it so great.”
Continuing on much the same point, he then said, indicating that he thinks more of his fans need to be involved in pushing for “change”, “The freedom to use our voices, challenge the status quo, and responsibility to shape the future can easily be taken for granted.”
Concluding, he made a banal claim about unity, despite having been quite divisive with the garage door rope incident, saying, “You don’t have to agree with someone to have the same pride in the country we share. Real progress happens when we realize staying unified is bigger than our differences. USA!”
Commenters attacked him from both sides for the ridiculous post. “I don’t think it’s worth celebrating July 4th. It really is white people freedom and that’s it. I celebrate Juneteenth as that is the real freedom for all but I get what you are saying. I’m black and Native American-my family has been really hurt by this country,” said one African-American commenter.
On much the same note, another commenter said, “I have no pride in the USA nor have I ever celebrated this holiday. I am loyal only to my family and friends but I respect everyone’s right to love their country and to not love their country whichever they choose.”

On the other side, one commenter said, “I find this post interesting. You actually tried to start a [racial conflict] over a freaking rope on a garage door. You didn’t give a damn that it was a lie. Now you have the nerve to say staying unified is bigger than our differences? You called an entire fanbase racist. What a joke.”
A few, however, were positive. One such poster said, “7 years ago you came to my school and talked about dedication and hard work. I was already a NASCAR fan from birth, watching JJ48 at 2 years old. I remember asking if you’d hop on fortnite with me lol you politely declined understandably. I’ve been a fan ever since. 23!! 🏆🏁🇺🇲”
