“I’m Very Angry”: Gov. DeSantis Calls calls for “Quick Death Penalty Prosecution” for Charlie Kirk’s Assassin [WATCH]

Speaking in a heartfelt and emotional interview in the wake of the assassination of Turning Point USA founder and important Trump ally Charlie Kirk, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis demanded a quick prosecution of the murderer who slew Charlie Kirk in front of hundreds of college students. In fact, Gov. DeSantis called for the killer to face the death penalty.

That came when the Governor appeared on Jesse Watters’s program on Fox News Channel in the wake of the horrific assassination, and commented on both the general situation and the need for speed in this case, demanding the FBI and DOJ move quickly to ensure the shooter is apprehended, tried, and executed.

Beginning, the governor explained how furious he is that a man who dedicated his life to dialogue was murdered for sharing views on college campuses, saying, “I’m very angry that you had a guy that dedicated his life to taking the ideas that we all believe in and bringing them to inhospitable environments, the college campus.”

Continuing, Gov. DeSantis noted that Charlie could have run for office and had a minor impact from a cushy district, yet chose to instead continue pushing his message and being more influential by doing the harder thing. He said, “You know, people talked about him running for office. He could have gotten elected to some red legislative district, he wouldn’t have had nearly the impact.”

Adding to that, the governor noted that Charlie was assassinated just for trying to respectfully but firmly share his normal political opinions, saying,  “He chose to go in the places where he knew he was going to get pushback, but he was dedicated this idea that, ‘you know what, I have a right to speak my mind. I want to change your mind. You can ask me tough questions. I’m going to be respectful and civil, but I’m going to tell you what I believe.’ And that’s what he was doing when he got assassinated for political purposes.”

Then, commenting on Charlie’s legacy and how awful this is not just for Charlie’s family but for the nation as a whole, saying, “So I think he left a big legacy. Obviously, it’s going to shatter the family, but this is a big wound for this nation, because of a republican government cannot endure if we cannot have situations where it’s safe to disagree, where you can actually go and give a different perspective.”

Adding to that by noting that our form of government can’t survive if we allow this sort of tragedy, the governor noted, “But we’ve seen people get shut down on college campuses. We’ve seen violence not approaching this level on college campuses. And then this event, I think, really gets to the heart of whether Republican government can can long survive.”

Concluding, he demanded quick action that holds the shooter accountable, saying, “So I’m very angry at what happened today. Obviously, they got to catch this guy, and we need a very quick death penalty prosecution. I don’t want to see this take forever and a day. We need justice for this.”
