Actress and American icon Sydney Sweeney’s character from the popular television series Euphoria, Cassie Howard, dropped a pretty big clue as to her political leanings during the latest episode of the show after replying, “I’m not retarded,” after she was told that she sounded “like a Democrat.” An off-camera podcast host in the episode tells Cassie, “You sound like a Democrat.” Cassie chuckles and replies, “I’m not retarded.”
As is typically the case with the series, controversy abounds, especially concerning Sweeney’s character. In episode 5 of the third, and potentially final, season, fans witness Cassie go from stay-at-home wife to OnlyFans model. Cassie goes on to gain 50,000 subscribers and lands guest appearances on several podcasts.
During the fictional podcast interviews, Cassie also showcases that she leans toward tradwife tropes, complaining that, “If a man today were to say that he wants a girlfriend that can cook or clean, he might as well be screaming the N-word.” Later in the episode, the character tells a pair of hosts that she believes “American men have been treated like second-class citizens.”
According to a report from Breitbart, Cassie then says, “In the past, men used to be hunters and gatherers and protectors. Now, they’re being forced to walk around on their tippy toes. It’s not natural.” In another interview she says that “men should be free, they should be able to speak their mind, voice their desires.” One of Cassie’s friends, Maddy Perez, who is also her manager, points out, “The angrier these idiots get, the more money you make.”
Sweeney’s portrayal is not going over too well with actual OnlyFans models, who have been slamming the actress’s character. Fans have also been ripping into show creator, Sam Levinson, claiming he’s “degrading” Sweeney with the show’s many explicit sex scenes. What many consider even more outlandish is the reason behind Cassie becoming an OnlyFans model. According to the third season storyline, she gets on the platform in order to earn $50,000 to buy wedding flowers to marry Nate, played by Jacob Elordi.
The comment section of the article did not disappoint. One user quipped, “Yep, you pretty much stated the one thing you have to be to be a Democrat: Retarded.” Another individual followed that howler up by writing, “Not all Democrats are retarded. I mean, there has to be one somewhere who isn’t…maybe…” Someone else replied by bringing up Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) who has been breaking with Democrats on a number of issues recently.
“Fetterman, mostly. His retardation is wearing off it seems,” the person said. Sydney Sweeney herself has become a fan favorite, especially for individuals on the more conservative side, thanks in large part to being a registered Republican and for not bowing before the woke mob when they attempted to cancel her for a controversial American Eagle jeans ad in 2025.

“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the HOTTEST ad out there,” the president said of the ad, going on to say, “Go get ’em, Sydney.” Later in the same post, President Trump said, “Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.” Trump was also asked by a reporter for his thoughts on Sweeney being a registered Republican.
“Ohhhhh, now I love her ad. Is that right, is Sydney Sweeney?” Trump responded. “You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That’s what I wouldn’t have known, but I’m glad you told me that if Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.” Sweeney continues to do ads for American Eagle.
