Recently, a Colombian illegal immigrant who crossed into the United States was released and given a 2031 check-in date with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). After illegally entering the United States, the woman was told by ICE to check in with the organization in 2031.
The Colombian woman’s attorney, Matthew Kolken, has spoken out against the Biden administration for its inability to control the southern border, claiming it has incentivized “backdoor amnesty” for anyone seeking to enter the U.S. The experienced lawyer claimed that in his 30 years of experience, he has never witnessed a check-in date eight years into the future.
Kolken maintains that his client has a legitimate asylum-seeking case. However, the lawyer claims that an enormous backlog of illegitimate asylum claims has caused him to question if he will get a chance to argue his case in court, given the check-date nearly a decade into the future. “It made me realize the Biden administration is basically providing backdoor amnesty for anyone who wants to show up at the border,” Kolken stated.
Throughout the Biden administration, unfettered illegal immigration has soared to record highs. Recent reports illustrate how the southern border actively remains an ongoing issue, where U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported over 12,600 migrant encounters in Eagle Pass, Texas, last Monday alone. Moreover, thousands of additional migrants were still waiting to be processed in Del Rio, Texas, where thousands of encounters are also being reported.
House Speaker Mike Johnson recently stressed how dire America’s border crisis has become, calling for substantive action from the Biden administration. Johnson has taken a strong stance on the border, refusing to back down and blocking funding for causes such as Ukraine and Israel.
“The southern border of our nation is being overrun and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is at a breaking point. This catastrophe requires your administration’s full attention and commitment, particularly since Senate Majority Leader Schumer adjourned the Senate yesterday for the year without considering the commonsense solutions in our House bill (H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023) or taking any other legislative action to address the matter,” he said.
Johnson further commented on the shocking statistics, highlighting the sheer magnitude of the record-high illegal immigration. “In Fiscal Year (FY) 2023, CBP encountered a record 2.48 million illegal aliens at our southern border,’ in addition to nearly 670,000 so-called “got-a-ways.” On average, more than 8,400 illegal aliens entered our country every single day over the last year. While those numbers are shocking, they are projected to be even worse in FY2024. Just this week, the record for illegal crossings in a single day was broken yet again,” Johnson continued.
“All of this is the direct result of your administration’s policies. You have clearly undermined America’s sovereignty and security by ending the Remain in Mexico policy, reinstating catch-and-release, suspending asylum cooperative agreements with other nations, ignoring existing restraints on the abuse of parole, and halting border wall construction. You also undermined Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) core mission, and even used a smartphone app to facilitate the release of border crossers into the United States,” the speaker continued blaming Biden.
