In another awful but sadly expected incident out of the now-blue state of Colorado, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers were attacked by an illegal alien who attempted to ram them with his truck as they conducted an enforcement operation in the Colorado Springs area. Fortunately, the ICE agents were uninjured in the attack.
According to reports of the incident that have so far emerged, there were two illegal aliens involved in the attack. The driver of the vehicle that was used to attack the ICE agents., named Jose Mendez-Chavez, is 31 years old and from Mexico; he has been deported six times and has a horrific rap sheet, including domestic violence and child abuse. The other illegal alien involved was Francisco Zapata-Pacheco, a passenger in the car.
ICE provided that its agents were conducting a relatively routine operation in the Colorado Springs area when the car containing the two illegal aliens tried to ram them. One of the officers, thinking quickly, drew his weapon and fired three shots. The gunfire does not appear to have hit either of the illegal aliens involved in the attack, but did manage to keep the car from hitting the agents.
After the attack failed, both illegal aliens ditched their vehicle and tried making a run for it. Pacheco was arrested on Thursday, July 31. Describing the incident in a statement, a spokesperson for ICE said, “Two criminal aliens attempted to ram their vehicle into ICE officers during a targeted enforcement operation in Colorado Springs, Colorado, [on] July 31.”
Continuing, the statement commented on the gunshots and hunt for the fugitives, providing, “As a result of their violent actions and to protect the officers and agents onsite, an officer fired three shots into the vehicle. The aliens fled and later abandoned the vehicle. Law enforcement officials are currently searching for the fugitives.”
Further, ICE commented on the fact that an anti-ICE group that protests ICE operations with the goal of disrupting them, the Colorado Rapid Response Network (CRRN), was present for the incident, noting that the illegal alien involved had committed heinous crimes in addition to assaulting ICE officers.
The spokesperson said, referencing that aspect of the situation, “It is despicable that Colorado Rapid Response network would show up in defense of an alien who has abused children and attempted to injure our officers. Our brave ICE law enforcement officers are facing an 830% increase in assaults against them as they carry out operations due to the misinformation activist groups spread.”

Adding to that, the statement from ICE noted that, quite in contrast to what activists like those affiliated with CRRN claim, the illegal aliens were not “innocent victims” of evil Trump Administration policies, but wrongdoers who need to be removed from the country, noting, “Mendez was not an ‘innocent victim’ he is an abuser who plays the system and is now wanted for assault on a federal officer.” The spokesperson added, “He knows he’s not supposed to be here, since we’ve removed him six times previously.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation commented on the matter to Fox 21, saying, “FBI Denver is investigating an alleged assault on a federal officer that occurred in El Paso County, Colo. earlier today. As this is an ongoing investigation, we do not have any further information to provide at this time.”
