In yet another horrific scandal showing the magnitude of the illegal immigration problem and the degree to which it has potentially impacted our politics, it has been discovered that illegal alien Ian Andre Roberts, an illegal from Guyana who had been working as the superintendent of the Des Moines Public Schools in Iowa before being arrested by ICE, was also registered registered active Democrat voter in the state of Maryland.
For reference, Roberts has remained in America for decades after overstaying a student visa starting in 1999. Despite being in the country illegally and having a weapons charge on his record, he remained employed by the Des Moines school system and was not detained or deported by immigration authorities until ICE arrested him in late September of 2025.
Such is what ICE announced in a jaw-dropping press release, noting that Roberts was arrested with a firearm and thousands of dollars in cash after trying to flee from law enforcement. “ICE Des Moines arrested Ian Andre Roberts, a criminal illegal alien from Guyana in possession of a loaded handgun, $3,000 in cash and a fixed blade hunting knife. At the time of his arrest, Roberts was working as the Superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools despite being an illegal alien with a final order of removal and no work authorization,” the press release provided.
It further added, commenting on his status in the country and criminal record, “Roberts has existing weapon possession charges from February 5, 2020. Roberts entered the United States in 1999 on a student visa and was given a final order of removal by an immigration judge in May of 2024.”
While it was stunning enough that the illegal alien known to be in the country illegally and who had a rap sheet had been employed in a leadership role at the supposedly red state’s school system, it soon emerged after Roberts’s arrest that he was also registered to vote as a Democrat in the state of Maryland.
In fact, as was reported by Fox News Digital, the Maryland State Board of Elections’s official website provided, at least before the scandal emerged, that Roberts was registered as a Democrat in the state and was still registered as an active voter despite not appearing to have lived in Maryland for at least the past decade. His active voter status meant that he was able to vote in all federal, state and local elections despite not being a U.S. citizen.
Republican Maryland state Delegate Matt Morgan, who is chair of the Maryland House Freedom Caucus, told Fox News Digital, on the matter of Roberts and his voting status and Maryland’s attempt to prevent the DOJ from examining its voter rolls: “If illegal aliens are not allowed to vote, why would they be on the voter rolls in the first place? And how would that enhance immigration enforcement? I don’t know, but that’s the excuse that they wrote to the DOJ.”

Des Moines School Board Chair Jackie Norris, commenting on the matter of Roberts and the decision of Iowa to revoke his education license said, blandly, “We were notified that the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners revoked Doctor Roberts’ license to practice as a superintendent in the state of Iowa. Without such a license, Doctor Roberts is not in compliance with his contract.” The school board chair did not comment on why the school system hired a felon in America illegally as a superintendent.
