In more entertaining news showing that ICE is taking the threats to its officers very seriously, the illegal alien who tried attacking and humiliating ICE officers in Los Angeles by spitting on them back in June, tactics replicated in Portland during the ongoing October riots, is facing eight years in prison for what he did.
As background, the ICE crackdown on illegal immigration across the country, particularly in sanctuary cities and states like Los Angeles, Portland, and Chicago, has meant that it has come into conflict with increasingly hostile and large numbers of far-left violent radicals and rioters, and as such has dealt with typical riot problems, such as fighting off violent hordes outside its downtown detainment centers.
Some such incidents have involved not just yelling and pushing, but outright assault, such as rock throwing, fighting, and spitting. Some of the spitting cases, such as a recent one in Portland and the earlier one in Los Angeles, have been called out by the authorities and used to make examples of the rioters at issue.
In bad news for the Portland rioter caught spitting on ICE, the illegal alien from Los Angeles who did the same thing over the summer is now facing eight long years in prison. Such is what the DOJ announced in a press release, saying, “An illegal alien from Mexico who is living in Los Angeles was charged today with a felony count for allegedly spitting on a federal agent.”
Continuing, the statement noted that the illegal alien not only committed crimes related to being here illegally, but that the spitting is a serious felony that could see him locked away for most of a decade: “Omar Pulido Bastida, 41, of the Historic South Central neighborhood of Los Angeles, is charged with one count of assault of a federal employee, a crime that carries a statutory maximum sentence of eight years in federal prison. Pulido, who earlier this year separately was charged with being an illegal alien found in the United States following removal, was arrested and made his initial appearance on Tuesday in United States District Court in Santa Ana. A federal magistrate judge order him detained and scheduled his arraignment for July 16 in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. He is expected to make his initial appearance in this case in the coming days.”
Commenting on the incident, which came as officers were executing an arrest warrant and fighting with an illegal immigrant through the iron gate to his residence, United States Attorney Bill Essayli said, “This defendant found out the hard way: When you spit, we hit – with a felony charge. Law enforcement officers risk their lives and safety to uphold the law. To treat them with the disrespect, like this defendant did, mocks our great nation and such behavior will be punished accordingly.”
Now, the Portland rioter who did much the same thing is facing the same charge. That is 38-year-old Alexander Jay Boyce, who is facing a felony charge related to his allegedly assaulting a federal officer outside of Portland’s ICE facility on October 5, when he spat on an officer as the officer tried telling Boyce and other protesters to stay off of federal property.

Scott E. Bradford, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, wrote in a statement that Boyce has been charged under the same assault of a federal officer statute, and is facing eight years in prison, saying, “Nobody spits on the brave men and women of federal law enforcement and gets away with it. If you spit on a federal law enforcement officer, you will be hit with federal charges.”
