Ilhan Omar’s State of the Union Guest Got Arrested

In some absolutely hilarity from the 2026 State of the Union (SOTU) address that was missed by many because of the much bigger news of Democrats refusing to indicate they would put American citizens over illegals and of Trump sending Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) into a spiralling rage by calling out the “Somali pirates” in Minnesota, one of Ilhan Omar’s SOTU guests was arrested.

That came on the night of the address itself, Tuesday, February 24, when one of the woke Squad congresswoman’s hand-picked guests at the event was arrested after she tried to disrupt President Donald Trump’s speech to the nation. Her attempt at disruption came from the House gallery, which was revealed by the US Capitol Police.

That guest was 43-year-old Minneapolis resident Aliya Rahman, a fellow Minneapolis, Minnesota resident of Ilhan Omar’s. As a reminder, Minneapolis appears to be ground zero of Somali migrant fraud of the sort that drained billions upon billions of dollars from American taxpayers, leading many MAGA Americans to question why we have tolerated such things from the Somali migrants, and indeed why America has allowed them to stay at all. Rahman got arrested, and claims ot have been injured by ICE when protesting the resultant crackdown.

In any case, the SOTU incident came when Rahman “started demonstrating” from the House Gallery, causing a ruckus as the president spoke and refusing to sit down and be quiet, even when the police got involved in ordering her to do so. She was, as a result, arrested and taken into Capitol police custody.

Commenting on the matter in a dry statement that briefly described the incident, the Capitol Police said, “All State of the Union tickets clearly explain that demonstrating is prohibited. At approximately 10:07 p.m., a person in the House Gallery started demonstrating during tonight’s State of the Union Address. The guest was told to sit down, but refused to obey our lawful orders.”

Continuing, the Capitol Police explained what provision of the law she violated, saying, “It is illegal to disrupt the Congress and demonstrate in the Congressional Buildings, so 43-year-old Aliya M. Rahman of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was arrested for D.C. Code §10-503.16—Unlawful Conduct, Disruption of Congress.” She was then apparently issued a citation release, which the police said is the normal procedure in cases like this, or at least routine.

Predictably, her attorney, Alexa Van Brunt, tried to turn the incident into a case of oppression and tyranny, claiming, “Aliya Rahman was targeted at the State of the Union last night. After standing up in silence during the speech, Aliya was quickly taken away and arrested for ‘unlawful conduct’ and released just before 4 a.m. today.”

Van Brunt added, “There is nothing unlawful about standing in silence and this is a blatant abuse of power. She was not disruptive or disrespectful. She was not holding a sign, making gestures, or wearing protest gear. She was simply standing in silence.” However, that is incorrect. As the Capitol Police noted, any sort of demonstration, including a silent one, is illegal during the address.
