A war of words took place between Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on X (formerly Twitter), in the wake of rumors that President Donald Trump might pardon former police officer Derek Chauvin, the police officer convicted of killing George Floyd. MTG supported such a move, leading to a viral, knock-out fight between Omar and Greene.
As background, the spat between the two came in the wake of a news story out of Minnesota about state and Minneapolis officials preparing for riots if President Trump chooses to pardon Derek Chauvin. While Trump has not said he will do so, Gov. Walz and other Minnesota officials think he could, hence the preparation.
It was in reference to that story that MTG kicked things off, posting a screenshot of an article about the Minnesota officials preparing for potential riots and emphasizing her support for a Chauvin pardon. She said, “I strongly support Derek Chauvin being pardoned and released from prison. George Floyd died of a drug overdose.”
That tweet from Greene sparked a full on meltdown from Ilhan Omar, who let loose in a quote tweet of MTG’s post. Beginning, the far-left congresswoman from Minnesota snapped, “Absolutely vile. Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd in a modern day lynching— it was chilling and intentional.”
Continuing, Omar insisted that Chauvin had no escape, given that he was also convicted on a state charge, writing, “Also hate to break it to you, Marjorie, but regardless of any potential pardon, Chauvin will remain in jail for his state conviction. He will forever be a convicted murderer in the eyes of the law and the world.”
MTG fired back with a furious post of her own, referencing the claim that Omar married her own brother. She said, “Busy day fighting Democrats. First Mike Lawler who is trying to destroy Trump’s agenda and now illegal alien Ilhan Omar of Somalia. Ilhan, you know what’s vile? Having sex with and marrying your brother!!!”
Omar snapped back by saying, capping off the back and forth X feud, “I am not sure if the conspiracy theories have rotted your brain or pornhub, but please spare us your vile fantasies and juvenile insults. The murderer you defend will remain in jail and I will continue to be an American citizen elected by more voters into congress than corrupt elected official like you.”

Slamming Rep. Lawler, the other member of Congress she referenced in her feud with Omar, in a separate post, MTG said, “Lawler introduced a bill in 2023 moving SALT caps to $20,000 and now he is a NO on our reconciliation bill because he says our bill raises SALT caps to $30,000 and says that is not enough!”
Continuing, she said, noting his personal interest in subsidizing high state taxes, “SALT caps at $30,000 is for Lawler’s district allows 93% of his constituents to write off their entire property tax bill! Lawler can win re-election on that and the $30,000 SALT caps is even better than the measly $20,000 SALT cap he put in his own legislation.”
She then noted, “He should be saying thank you to all of us from red states that are supporting the SALT caps being raised to $30,000 to help his constituents in his terrible blue states. But instead he is grandstanding and refusing to vote for the most important legislation that we can accomplish this term. The tax law is about to expire and that will raise taxes 65% on everyone.”
