Ilhan Omar Hurries Away from Reporters When Pressed on the Arrest of Her Son’s Roommate

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) opted not to answer questions while on Capitol Hill concerning a police raid on Capitol Hill that took place at the home shared by her son and his roommate in the city of Minneapolis. Omar’s son’s roommate is a convicted felon who was arrested on a weapons charge. Omar was pressed by reporters about the search, but she continued walking past them, refusing to engage with their questions.

The search took place on August 25, at the apartment shared by Omar’s 20-year-old son, Adnan Hirsi, and his roommate, 22-year-old Abdulrahman Abdi. “What do you know about the situation, why it happened in the first place?” reporters asked Omar as she walked through the Capitol building. She remained silent and ignored the repeated inquiries of the media.

“Are you going to advise your son to move from his place? Away from that situation? We were just wondering what you thought about the whole thing,” the reporters asked the congresswoman. Reports say that the Minnesota Democrat’s son has not been officially accused of any wrongdoing in connection with the incident, nor has Omar.

According to a report from Trending Politics News, the controversy started after police in Minneapolis pulled Abdi over during a traffic stop and gave him a ticket for driving without a license or proof of insurance. He was initially released while the vehicle he was driving was impounded. However, authorities later found a firearm inside the car.

Due to Abdi’s prior felony conviction, federal and state law generally prohibit him from possessing firearms. Police then obtained a search warrant at the Marquette Avenue residence he shared with Hirsi. Several firearms, along with ammunition, were found during the raid. Abdi was taken into custody and booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center for a weapons charge.

Records indicate that he was released from custody the following day. Law enforcement authorities say that Hirsi was not arrested and has not been implicated in any criminal wrongdoing. Abdi’s criminal history includes several arrests and a felony speed conviction in connection with a 2024 case. He was accused at the time of driving over 100 mph.

The raid on Hirsi’s apartment also drew national attention due to Omar’s stance on strict gun-control measures. She has supported the expansion of background checks, red-flag laws, and restrictions on certain semi-automatic firearms. The congresswoman’s refusal to answer reporters left many wondering if she has spoken to her son about the incident or if he plans to continue living at the residence.

Benny Johnson, a conservative influencer, reacted to reports about the raids by posting, “Not a good look for Ilhan Omar.” As of now, the focus of the case is on Abdi and not on Omar’s son, who has not been accused of participating in any criminal activity in connection with the weapons investigation, though the discovery of further evidence could change that in the near future.
