Of all the places that an illegal immigrant might not want to be deported back to, particularly if not originally from there, Uganda is probably close to the top of the list. Yet that is exactly where the so-called “Maryland Man” Kilmar Abrego Garcia could be deported to by ICE now that he has been released from jail in Tennessee.
As background, the Trump Administration fought and won court cases allowing it to transfer illegal aliens to safe third-party countries where they can be detained for far less money than it costs to keep them locked up in America. Amongst those safe, third-party countries are African nations like South Sudan and Uganda. Garcia, who was originally deported to El Salvador’s CECOT prison as part of the crackdown on MS-13, apparently faces deportation to Uganda.
Such is what Fox News Digital reported, noting that Garcia has been released from jail in Tennessee, where he was being held, and must check in with an ICE agent in Baltimore, Maryland, by Monday, August 25. He was reportedly told, upon being released, that he can be deported in “no less than 72 hours.”
Reporting on the checking in aspect of the case, Fox News Digital noted that GArcia was placed in the custody of his brother, who is acting as a third-party custodian. He must check in with the ICE agent by 10 am on Monday, to meet with Pretrial Services, and must wear an electronic postition-tracking device.
ICE, however, wants to deport Garcia to a third-party nation, Uganda. So, as Fox News Digital reports, “U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis in Maryland, who is overseeing Abrego Garcia’s civil lawsuit challenging the legality of his deportation, has instructed federal officials to give his lawyers 72 hours notice before beginning deportation proceedings.” That will give them enough time to file a challenge.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem commented on the matter in scathing fashion in a Friday, August 22 post on X, alleging that the rogue judiciary is doing everything it can to block DHS from keeping America safe, and that the ruling in favor of Garcia is but one example of that anti-DHS bias that is putting American citizens at risk.
She began the post by saying that the “activist” judges are continually obstructing federal law enforcement in its efforts to crack down on illegal immigration, saying, “Activist liberal judges have attempted to obstruct our law enforcement every step of the way in removing the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from our country.”

Continuing, she alleged that Judge Xinis made his ruling out of a desire to gain public notoriety, and that the ruling allowed a very dangerous illegal alien to roam free on American streets. She said, “Today, we reached a new low with this publicity hungry Maryland judge mandating this illegal alien who is a MS-13 gang member, human trafficker, serial domestic abuser, and child predator be allowed free.”
Concluding, she noted that DHS would not be giving up so easily and that Garcia will, in the end, be deported. She wrote, “By ordering this monster loose on America’s streets, this judge has shown a complete disregard for the safety of the American people. We will not stop fighting till this Salvadoran man faces justice and is OUT of our country.”
