A spokesperson representing the Department of Homeland Security has issued a statement in response to the arrest of Christian Rodriguez, a manager of a McDonald’s franchise in Oceanside, New York, made by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. “Christian Emmanuel Rodriguez Torrealba, a criminal illegal alien from Venezuela, entered the U.S. on a B-2 tourist visa that required him to leave the U.S. by June 3, 2016,” the spokesperson said in the statement.
“Nearly 10 years later, he is still illegally in the U.S. Rodriguez’s criminal history includes convictions for battery and property damage crimes. ICE arrested this illegal alien on August 21, 2025,” the statement added. Rodriguez, who resides in the town of Baldwin, has been working for the restaurant since 2020. Rodriguez is said to possess a valid work visa and Social Security number.
“President Trump and Secretary Noem have been clear: Criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the United States,” the ICE spokesperson continued. Rodriguez was taken into custody by ICE agents just before the McDonald’s annual company picnic. Following his arrest, Rodriguez was transferred to the Central Islip area where he was held.
According to the LI Herald, Rodriguez was described by co-workers as being a hardworking employee. Several of his colleagues said that he had applied for political asylum and, at times, had valid work authorization and a Social Security number. Some of his co-workers have set up a fundraising page to help him cover the cost of hiring legal representation and have called for him to be released from ICE custody.
According to various immigration lawyers, those applying for asylum usually remain pending while their cases move through the system. Folks who apply for asylum in the United States typically stay in the country while applications are being processed. The report says that an applicant being taken into custody can feel unexpected for them and their families.
Since President Donald Trump has taken office in January 2025, one of his top priorities has been the enforcement of immigration law, which includes detention and deportation of those in the country illegally. Major operations to apprehend illegal aliens with a criminal record have been carried out in various states, most notably in Minnesota.
Operations in the North Star State have led to a series of aggressive anti-ICE protests, several of which turned violent and resulted in the deaths of two left-wing agitators, Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Pretti was shot and killed after physically assaulting an officer and seemingly reaching for a concealed weapon he was carrying on him at the time.

Good’s death came after she attempted to run over an ICE officer despite being warned several times to stop her car and step out of the vehicle. Rodriguez’s colleagues and regular customers have stated that his arrest has left them shocked and upset. Many of them are questioning the fairness of ICE agents executing a removal order or seeking to detain an individual who crossed the border illegally to come to the U.S. for work.
