Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested 54-year-old Mexican illegal alien Ramon Morales-Reyes for threatening to assassinate President Trump. Morales-Reyes passed a handwritten note to a police officer promising to shoot Trump at an upcoming rally.
For context, Trump has faced an unprecedented number of threats on his life while in office. Within a few short weeks, Trump was the target of two failed assassination attempts, leading to increased security as well as greater vigilance from his cabinet.
Prompting the arrest, the illegal immigrant gave a bizarre and meandering note to an ICE intelligence officer. The note read, “We are tired of this president messing with us Mexicans — we have done more for this country than you white people — My family and I think it is time Donald J. Trump get what he has coming to him.”
Continuing the bizarre threat, the note stated, “I will self-deport myself back to Mexico but not before I use my 30 yard 6 (sic) to shoot your precious president in is [sic] head — I will see him at one of his big rallies.”
— From the handwritten note by Ramon Morales-Reyes.”
Annoucing the arrest, The Deparment of Homeland Security posted, “Thanks to our ICE officers, this illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump is behind bars,” adding, “Ramon Morales Reyes entered the U.S. illegally at least nine times between 1998-2005. His criminal record includes arrests for felony hit and run, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier. He will remain in ICE custody pending his removal proceedings.”
Reacting to the arrest, Rep. nancy Mace (R-SC), said, “Anyone who thinks it is ok to threaten to kill the President of the United States needs to gain some common sense. Not only is he here illegally (which is a crime), but now he is a violent threat to an American Citizen. Thank you to ICE for quickly detaining this man. Now send him back to where he came from.”
Responding to the news of Morales-Reyes’ arrest, the official White House X account posted, “FAFO: Threaten to Kill the President as an Illegal Alien—You’ll Be Captured, Deported, and Never Set Foot on American Soil Again.”

Issuing an official statement on May 28, 2025, Department of Homeland Security head Kristi Noem said, “Thanks to our ICE officers, this illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump is behind bars. This threat comes not even a year after President Trump was shot in Butler, Pennsylvania and less than two weeks after former FBI Director Comey called for the President’s assassination.”
Concluding her remarks, she added, “All politicians and members of the media should take notice of these repeated attempts on President Trump’s life and tone down their rhetoric. I will continue to take all measures necessary to ensure the protection of President Trump. This is exactly why we must deport illegal aliens without delay. Thank God law enforcement acted swiftly.”
In the comments under her post, conservatives applauded her decisive action. One such comment noted, “Good job on this but didn’t Comey do the same? Because the only difference I see is that he didn’t threatened to act himself but he was signaling people to act on that. That should also warrant some serious jailtime, I think.”
