In a recent highly controversial appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Fox’s Maria Bartiromo, FBI director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino expressed their opinion that infamous sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide while in prison, provoking a massive backlash on social media.
For context, Epstein was a New York financier infamous for his deep connections and mysterious actions. When he was eventually busted for a bevy of horrific crimes against children, many speculated he would reveal the identities of his patrons and coconspirators. After Epstein suspiciously died in prison, many assumed that it was a deliberate killing to keep him from implicating others.
In any case, the May 18, 2025, interview featured host Maria Bartiromo, asking the two FBI officials for their opinions. She queried, “You said Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide. People don’t believe it.” Responding, Kash Patel said, “Listen, they have a right to their opinion, but you know a suicide when you see one, and that’s what that was.” Building on this point, Bongino added, “He killed himself. I’ve seen the whole file. He killed himself.”
While the two men have been historically popular with the general public, these responses did not go over well. Users savaged the two men in the comments under a clip of this interview posted to X. One such comment read, “It is really troubling that these two, who are supposed to uphold justice, are pushing and strengthening the lie. The bad guys have gotten to them for sure.”
Expressing a widespread feeling of betrayal, one user said, “Trump initially promised to release the Epstein Files if elected… Then he won the election and was sworn in. He signed multiple executive orders, but pointedly omitted any mention of the Epstein Files. A month later, Pam Bondi went on air, claiming they’d be released once she finished reviewing them,” adding, “Then the story shifted: suddenly, it was the FBI’s New York office causing the delay. And just like that, the promise faded into vague excuses and vanishing headlines. Enough. Release the d*mn Files.”
Using sarcasm to underline their point, many users mocked the official story. One of many comments read, “Yes, it is completely believable that Epstein killed himself. And if you recall the scene in the Godfather where Tom Hagen visits Frankie Five Angels in custody, then you understand the rest of the Epstein story…”

Fed up with the mainstream narrative about this case, one woman wrote, “So let’s get this straight The FIRST suicide attempt shows that the video was “accidentally erased” and the camera was set up to show “the wrong cell” “The requested video no longer exists on the backup system and has not since at least August 2019 as a result of technical errors” And the final suicide, the TWO cameras were broken? What universe does anyone believe on such a high profile case AND SUICIDE watch, that cameras just happened to not operate for surveillance?”
