Things got entertaining for the first time in a long time on CNN on Monday, October 7, when CNN senior political contributor Scott Jennings sounded off on his colleagues when they pressed him about whether he was bothered by the supposed “lies” of former President Donald Trump. Jennings is a conservative who formerly worked in the George W. Bush Administration.
What sparked the spat was that Jennings noted that Minnesota Governor and 2024 Kamala Harris running mate Tim Walz has not only lied quite a bit about his military service, but has even lied about the timing of a trip he took to Hong Kong, as he claimed he was there for the Tiananmen Square protests, but really only arrived months later.
After Jennings called him out for that, his co-panelists appeared to be angry at him for calling out Walz and so tried to get him to attack former President Trump. Doing so, Vanderbilt University professor and Baptist minister Michael Eric Dyson asked him, “You’ve done an analysis of Walz, are there any lies that Donald Trump tells that you are disturbed by?”
Jennings fired back, “I don’t want any politician to lie ever. I wish they would tell the truth all the time.” Then, after rabbi and CNN commentator Jay Michaelson asked him the same question, pressuring him to speak about Trump, Jennings snapped. He said, “First of all, I don’t answer to you and I don’t answer to you! … I don’t answer to these two guys!”
Continuing, Jennings turned the question on Michaelson and asked him about the many lies of Kamala Harris and what she has done that upsets him. Doing so, Jennings snapped, “What lies does Kamala Harris tell that you’re mad about? Can you give me a list? Have you brought it? Is it in your jacket?”
Michaelson responded, “Sure. You want me to say some things that Kamala Harris has sort of shifted her position on healthcare?”Jennings fired back, “No, not ‘shifted.’ Lies.” Michaelson then claimed, falsely, “No, she hasn’t lied. Now it’s your turn. Is there any Donald Trump lie– how about, you like the ‘blood of immigrants,’ is there some Donald Trump lie?
“How about ‘January 6 was just a tour. I didn’t have anything to do with January 6?’ How about Stormy Daniels? Do you care about that lie? Do you care about the lie that global warming was a Chinese hoax? That’s a lie. He knows it’s a lie, everybody knows it’s a lie. So, I’m just curious, will you answer the question? Is there one Donald Trump lie that crosses the line for you?” he angrily continued.
Jennings snapped back at Michaelson, “I do not agree with most of what Donald Trump has said about January 6. From the day it happened, to this moment right now, and every day I’ve been on this network, I could not be more clear about what I think happened on January 6, what he did, and what he has said.”
That’s not all. When pressed on the 2020 election and if he thinks that former President Trump actually lost it, Jennings took the opportunity to note how awful the Biden-Harris Administration has been. Referring to Trump and the 2020 election, Jennings said, “He absolutely lost the election, and now we’ve had three-and-a-half years of absolute terrible.” Watch the spat here:
