Former NFL quarterback-turned-leftist-activist Colin Kaepernick seems to be learning the meaning of “go woke, go broke,” the hard way, as new reports say that he has sold his New York City condo for a lot less than what he first paid for it. Jennifer Gould, a reporter for The New York Post, says that Kaepernick paid $3.21 million for the property in 2016 and put it on the market in 2024.
The condo, designed by well-known architect Enrique Norton, was purchased in 2016 just before the now failed quarterback started participating in anti-American activism by kneeling during the playing of the National Anthem before games. The former San Francisco 49ers second-stringer, along with his wife, left-wing activist Nessa Diab, put the property up for sale in 2024, listing it for an asking price of $3.45 million. However, by late 2025, the price dropped to $2.99 million.
As of this writing, it’s not known what the final sale price for the 1,733-square-foot condo actually sold for. The property features three bedrooms, a foyer that leads into the dining room and living room, and a chef’s kitchen decked out with glass cabinetry.
The home’s main bedroom has a full bathroom and custom closets. A bonus feature is the heated pool on the roof for owners to use. The sale price for the home also includes a parking spot in the building’s fully automated parking structure, which is valued at $250,000. The space was considered to be in “immaculate condition,” indicating that Kaepernick and his family lived at the residence sparingly.
According to Breitbart News, before Kaepernick bought the home, it was owned by another professional athlete, NHL player Derick Brassard, rap legend Nas, and writer Emily Stone. Shortly after starting his “career” as a political activist, Kaepernick went on to become a free agent. He never returned to the NFL. He spent six seasons with the 49ers, including a Super Bowl appearance in 2013 where his team lost to the Baltimore Ravens.
Gould’s report from the New York Post says that after Kaepernick claimed that he was blacklisted from the NFL over his protesting, he soon settled his disputes with the NFL in 2019. He allegedly still practices every day, hoping to come back to the world of professional football. Kaepernick and his wife have a daughter who was born in 2022. The couple kept their marriage under wraps until August 2024.
During his time away from the NFL, Kaepernick has attempted to keep himself busy with a plethora of other projects, including a children’s book. However, as stated previously, even at 36 years old, he’s still hoping to return to the field. “It was 15 years of work and dedication before I ever stepped foot on an NFL field, and to have that passion and chase it for that long, you don’t just give that up, you don’t just walk away,” he stated.

Continuing, concerning his desire to continue playing professional football, he added, “You chase that. You pursue it.” He then added, “There will never be an instance where I’m not ready, and there will never be an instance where it’s ‘because he doesn’t want to anymore.'”
