The February 9 White House Press Briefing, one that was predictably spicy given Biden’s shockingly bad lapses of memory and gaffes the night before, along with the Special Counsel’s report on Biden’s handling of classified documents, in which Special Counsel Hur noted Biden has significant memory issues. Particularly, Peter Doocy demanded an answer from KJP on how Biden could be trusted to run the country and with the nuclear codes if he has such terrible memory issues.
Beginning, Doocy, the last questioner in the press briefing, asked who is helping Biden run the country if he has such severe mental limitations. He asked, “Thank you, Karine. If the special counsel says President Biden has got “significant limitations” on his memory, then who is helping him run the country?” Predictably, KJP refused to give a straight answer. She said, “The President of the United States runs the country. The Commander-in-Chief runs the country.”
Doocy then tried a different tack. Asking about one particularly important and dangerous responsibility of Biden’s as president, he asked, “How can he be trusted with the nuclear codes if — I get that you’re saying that nobody in the building would say that he’s got an issue with his memory. But just the little part of what we get to see, he has made mistake after mistake after mistake after mistake on camera this week.”
KJP, instead of answering that, decided to attack the veracity of the Special Counsel’s report. She said, “So, I’m going to be very clear here. The reality is that report — that part of the report does not live in reality. It just doesn’t.” Doocy tried to interject, asking, “So, the special counsel is —” She did as well, saying, “It is — it — it is —” But Doocy finished his question, saying, “— lying about the President’s memory?”
KJP returned to attacking the report. She said, “It is — it is — it was gratuitous. You heard from my — you heard from Ian Sams, my colleague. It is unacceptable. And it does not live in reality. That is just the facts. And — and, look, it is a closed case. That is what the special counsel said. And what matters is — here is that the President, in the last three years, has delivered on the economy, has delivered on healthcare, has turned this country around after the last president left us with an economy that was in a tailspin. That’s what we were dealing with. That’s what we were dealing with.”
She continued, “If you think about the world leaders — world leads — and issues that have been going on in this country for the past two, three years — not even in this country, in the world. Right? When you think about Ukraine, the President was able to bring together NATO — NATO Allies — they have been the strongest that they’ve ever been — and make sure that we are providing what Ukraine — the brave people of Ukraine need as they’re fighting aggression — Putin’s aggression.”
She then continued boosting Biden, saying, “And that is what this President has — has been able to do. His — his experience as former senator, as former vice president, and now a president has gotten us to a place where we’ve been able to turn things around in a way that we meet the needs of the American people, whether it’s domestic issues or national security issues, and that is what matters.”
Then, shutting things down as Doocy tried to pose another question, KJP claimed, “That re- — part of the report does not live in reality. Bye, everybody. Have a great weekend.” Watch her tense back and forth with Peter Doocy here:
