Speaking in an interview with The New York Times, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) sounded off on Vice President and failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris, explaining how Harris had dismissively treated her and others when asked about her “thoughts about Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign.”
Rep. Perez unloaded on Harris in her response to the NYT, saying that she only “had one interaction with Harris, at her Naval Observatory Christmas party,” but that it was quite unpleasant and that Harris was overly rude when interacted with about the trees at the event.
She said, “I’m not super comfortable at that kind of thing. I’d had a couple of beers, and I noticed that almost all of the garlands were plastic. My district grows a hell of a lot of Christmas trees. I was strong-armed into taking a picture. I said, ‘Madam Vice President, we grow those where I live.’ She just walked away from me.”
Continuing, Rep. Perez noted that Harris even rolled here eyes, which was obscenely rude, saying, “There was kind of an eye roll, maybe. My thinking was, it does matter to people where I live. It’s the respect, the cultural regard for farmers. I didn’t feel like she understood what I was trying to say.”
That’s not all. She also noted that the Biden-Harris Administration’s stance on border control was a major problem, saying, “I was talking to a woman who runs one of the largest labor and delivery wards. She said 40 percent of the babies there have at least one parent addicted to fentanyl. What is empathetic — to tell them that’s their problem, or to take border security seriously?”
Building on that, she also noted that inflation has turned into a huge problem for people and that the Harris campaign’s dismissive treatment of it was awful, saying, “People are putting their groceries on their credit card. No one is listening to anything else you say if you try to talk them out of their lived experiences with data points from some economists.”
Rep. Perez was then asked by the New York Times if she thinks “the Democratic Party will be forced to change after this crushing election cycle.” Responding, she explained that Democrats need to stop demonizing and blaming the other side and instead focus on being accountable and thoughtful.
She said, on that note, that a mental fix is painful but much in order, saying, “It’s a lot easier to look outward, to blame and demonize other people, instead of looking in the mirror and seeing what we can do. It is not fun to feel accountability. It requires a mental flexibility that’s painful.”
Kamala’s rudeness has become a very frequently noticed issue with her political career. For example, one poster on X said, after she lost the election and handled it very poorly, not even speaking to her supporters, “Whatever your politics, this is just rude and ungracious. Kamala Harris should have made an appearance and consoled the broken-hearted. No need to concede at that stage. Millions of supporters and thousands of loyal workers deserved a word of thanks. That’s all. It costs nothing.”
