More and more bad news continues to roll in for the left as Biden bumbles, Hunter gets convicted, and now one of the members of the far-left “Squad” looks like he won’t be headed back to Congress, with stiff competition in his district potentially sinking his 2024 campaign. Hillary Clinton, involved in backing his opponent, faces stiff criticism from the left for doing so.
That “Squad” member is Congressman Jamaal Bowman, the far-left Congressman from New York who made headlines in the fall of 2023 when he set off a fire alarm in what looked like an attempt to delay a Congressional vote. Rep. Bowman, for his part, insisted after the incident that he thought pulling the fire alarm would open the door.
“I want to personally clear up confusion surrounding today’s events. Today, as I was rushing to make a vote, I came to a door that is usually open for votes but today would not open. I am embarrassed to admit that I activated the fire alarm, mistakenly thinking it would open the door. I regret this and sincerely apologize for any confusion this caused,” Rep. Bowman said.
In any case, now he faces stiff competition in the Democratic primary. In fact, early results show that right now Rep. Bowman is trailing challenger George Latimer by as much as 17 points as the two tick down the final days before the district’s June 25th primary election. As of now, Latimer looks like he will be capturing 48% of the vote to Bowman’s 31%. 21% of voters are still undecided.
Among those backing Latimer is former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She framed the matter as being keeping as many Democrats in Congress as possible as a potential second Trump presidency becomes possible, saying, “With Trump on the ballot, we need strong, principled Democrats in Congress more than ever.”
Continuing, she argued that Latimer would continue standing up for issues that Democrats find important, like abortion and gun control, hinting that he’d be left enough without being as radical as Bowman. She said, “In Congress, @LatimerforNY will protect abortion rights, stand up to the NRA, and fight for President Biden’s agenda—just like he’s always done. Make a plan to vote by June 25th!”
Predictably, the left went berserk over Hillary’s post. One commenter, for example, wrote, “This endorsement coming right after Latimer’s islamophobic comments is on brand tbh, and I’m tired of everyone ignoring it.” Another said, “Imagine taking Hillary Clinton’s advice in a year with Trump on the ballot.” Still another wrote, “Someone explain to me how a candidate funded by pro-Trump GOP donors is a “strong principled Democrat” who will stand up to Trump. smh absurd.”
Latimer, for his part, thanked Hillary in a post on X that quote-tweeted her post in support of him and his campaign, saying, “I’m honored to have the support of @HillaryClinton, whose decades of service are an inspiration. Early Voting kicks off on Saturday. Vote Early before 6/23, or vote on 6/25. Just make sure you vote for #RealResultsNotRhetoric!”
