A terrifying new report claims that the border situation, now that Title 42 has expired, has spun even more out of control. Border Patrol agents are now apprehending their highest-ever daily average of migrants.
Such is what Fox News Digital reported after having conversations with sources within CBP, writing:
Border Patrol agents apprehended over 10,000 migrants on both Monday and Tuesday, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sources tell Fox News, marking the highest single-day totals ever recorded ahead of the end of the Title 42 public health order later this week.
Sources say agents apprehended at least 10,300 migrants who crossed illegally on Tuesday, in addition to the over 10,000 encountered on Monday. There are currently 28,500 migrants in custody.
Fox is told that the numbers are expected to keep increasing ahead of the end of the Title 42 order on Thursday. Officials have been preparing for months for an expected surge in migration across the border once the order ends. The order has been used since March 2020 by both the Trump and Biden administrations to expel hundreds of thousands of migrants quickly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In March, nearly half of all migrant encounters ended in a Title 42 expulsion.
Officials and lawmakers have feared that migrants, believing they are more likely to be admitted to the U.S. once the order ends, will head to the border in numbers not even seen during the more than two-year migrant crisis so far. Officials had previously painted a worst-case scenario of up to 14,000 encounters a day.
That stands in stark contrast to what White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre recently claimed. She said, during her May 1 press briefing. Then, she said, “[President Biden] has asked Congress to take action — Republicans in Congress to take action and to take — and to work on this in a con- — in a bipartisan way. He’s going to continue to do that. In the meantime, he’s put forth some — he has tools that he’s used to — to make sure that we do this — we actually deal with the immigration system in a humane way, and in a — in a way that is that — that actually deals with what we’re seeing at the border. And that’s why you’ve seen the parolee program be so successful. It has — it has — it has — when it comes to illegal migration, you’ve seen it come down by more than 90 percent, and that’s because of this act- — the actions that this President has taken. But we know that more action needs to be taken. So it has to be legislative action. We’re going to continue to call Congress to do that. And so, this is important to this President. On day one — on day one, he put forth in — a legislation to move forward on this.”
Explaining that claim to Peter Doocy, she later said, “So I was speaking to the parolee program. As you know, the President put in place a parolee program to deal with — to deal with certain countries on — on ways that we can limit illegal migration. And we have seen — the data has shown us that it has gone down by more than 90 percent. That was what I was speaking to.”
Regardless of the metric they’re using to claim border apprehensions are down, the Fox News Digital report indicates that quite the opposite is the case…and the situation could soon get far worse.
