It is only a matter of time before more biological men start seeping into a broader array of women’s sports. So far we have seen golf, swimming, professional surfing, skateboarding; sports where women aren’t in danger of being injured by a man.
Unfortunately, men claiming to be trans, at some point will be joining sports where they could potentially injure a woman. In fact, it has already happened. A high school volleyball player in North Carolina named Payton McNabb receiver career ending, and life altering injuries after being viciously spiked in the face by a male competitor on the opposing team.
McNabb, a senior at Hiwassee Dam High School in Murphy, N.C is now speaking out about her injuries, and she had a message for the North Carolina State legislature. Per Fox News: “Due to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association policy of allowing biological males to compete against biological females my life has forever been changed. On Sept. 1, 2022, I was severely injured in a high school volleyball game by a transgender athlete on the opposing team. I suffered from a concussion and a neck injury that to this day I am still recovering from. Other injuries I still suffer from today include impaired vision, partial paralysis on my right side, constant headaches, as well as anxiety and depression.”
While volleyball isn’t necessarily a contact sport, the force of a spiked volleyball can be extremely dangerous. Even more so when someone that is biologically stronger spikes it, like a male. McNabb is walking proof of what can happen. She continued: “My ability to learn, retain, [and] comprehend has also been impaired, and I require accommodations at school for testing because of this.
Speaking to the legislature, McNabb pled her case, a case that should never have to be pled; that women and girls need to be protected from males playing their sports, or something worse will happen than what she suffered: “I’m here for every biological female athlete behind me. My little sister, my cousins, my teammates. Allowing biological males to compete against biological females is dangerous. I may be the first to come before you with an injury, but if this doesn’t pass I won’t be the last.
“My ability to compete was taken from me. Having to play against biological males is not a level playing field and it is most definitely not safe,”

Lawmakers in North Carolina passed the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act on Wednesday, a bill that would bar biological men from playing on girls’ sports teams in middle school and through college. It is unclear if this will face a potential veto, but more states need to push through legislation to protect girls from situations such as what Peyton went through.
What will it take? Will a girl have to be seriously injured playing field hockey or softball? There are sports available to girls that are dangerous, contact sports like field hockey. Hopefully it won’t take a death on the field to wise people up to the obvious fact that men shouldn’t be competing against women in sports.
