According to post-election reports, Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign and her allies spent well over $2 billion in their unsuccessful attempt to defeat former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. According to OpenSecrets, $2.185 billion was spent in Harris’s presidential bid, which fell short as Trump decisively took the popular vote and the electoral college.
The Harris campaign had extensive financing, with the vice president’s team significantly outraising President-elect Donald Trump. Reportedly, Kamala Harris raised just under $1 billion, while former President Trump’s campaign only raised $388 million. However, this figure does not include millions invested in smaller quantities by Harris’ allied organizations. These investments include Harris for President: $875 million, Future Forward: $621 million, DNC: $368 million, and Harris Victory Fund: $321 million.
Furthermore, Forbes outlined how the Harris campaign had substantially more enthusiasm behind its fundraising initiatives, particularly as the election drew nearer. Reportedly, Kamala Harris raised just under $100 million in the first half of October, whereas Trump only raised around $16 million in the same period.
The American Tribune has reported on the varying responses across the mainstream media in the wake of Trump’s monumental victory. For weeks, left-leaning legacy media outlets had been touting inaccurate polls that showed the race between Trump and Harris virtually neck-and-neck. This was far from reality, particularly in the swing states that Trump swept through.
At one point as votes were coming in from Election Day, CNN’s Jake Tapper was left utterly shocked when reviewing Vice President Harris’ numbers, where she underperformed Joe Biden’s 2020 performance in every singe state. “Holy smoke, literally nothing?” Tapper said in shock as it became painfully clear how dim Harris’ prospects were.
“You asked are there any places that the vice president is overperforming Joe Biden in 2020, so we can show you that as well. We just bring that out here. Harris overperforming 2020,” chief national correspondent John King said. Literally nothing,” King told Tapper, said in disbelief asking King again, “Literally not one county?” However, at the county level reports indicated that Harris outperformed Biden by 3 percent or more in only 58 counties nationwide.
Furthermore, The Tribune reported on Republican pundit Scott Jennings giving CNN a reality check, pointing out how blatantly wrong the “political information” complex was on the 2024 election. “This is a mandate. He’s won the national popular vote for the first time for a Republican since 2004, this is a big deal. This isn’t backing into the office,” he told a panel, emphasizing the enthusiasm behind Trump.
Watch Tapper reacted to Harris’ performance below:
Calling out the Democratic narrative, Jennings added, “I think I’m interpreting the results tonight as the revenge of just a regular old working class American, the anonymous American who has been crushed, insulted, condescended to they’re not garbage, they’re not Nazis. They’re just regular people who get up and go to work every day and are trying to make a better life for their kids, and they feel like they have been told to shut up when they have complained about the things that are hurting them in their own lives.” He added, “I also feel like this election, as we sit here and pour over this tonight, is something of an indictment of the political information complex. We’ve been sitting around it for the last couple of weeks, and the story that was portrayed was not true,” he said.
