NOTE: This story is just a comment on what some commenters on social media and editorial sites said about a recent picture of former President Donald Trump, one which shows him looking thinner and happy around two of his grandkids. It is not a claim that what people online are saying is true, only that they are making certain comments and positing theories about what could be behind the president’s lean, vibrant new look.
Former President Donald Trump is back in the spotlight as the 2024 race heats up and his campaign really gets rolling. After the former president posted an Easter Sunday photo of him with his grandson Spencer and granddaughter Chloe, commenters on social media drew attention to his apparent weight loss and questioned whether the former president is on Ozempic or another weight loss drug, as he looks much thinner than in the past.
For reference, here is the picture, which the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., father of Spencer and Chloe, posted to Instagram as the family celebrated Easter together at the former President’s Mar-a-Lago home and club:
Commenters on Instagram noted the former president’s apparent weight loss. One person, commenting on Don Jr.’s Easter post, wrote, “The President looks like he’s lost some weight? He looks great! Happy Easter.” Another added, “Trump looking lean and mean!”
Commenting on a post on X about the president’s new look, one person joked, “could be ozempic but it also could be eating clean maybe hes eating those bison patties with no sauce.” Another commenter, joking about the balloons that Trumps’ grandkids are holding in the picture, wrote, “Love how they wait til he’s skinny to release Trump balloons”
Slate noted that the president appears thinner as well. In an article published about the photo and the former President’s somewhat different appearance, Slate author Luke Winkie noted that though Trump’s grandkids are adorable, the somewhat thinner former president is the real star of the photo. He said:
Here, we have an Easter family portrait published by Donald Trump Jr. The former president’s grandchildren are admittedly adorable, dressed in their Sunday best—never mind those truly bizarre balloon-animal effigies of their patriarch—but the star of the show is Trump himself, standing between his heirs, looking considerably svelte. The man has dropped some serious pounds! His waistline is comfortably ensconced within his suit, and his customary red tie dangles loosely over a conspicuously absent gut. I’m not alone in noticing this: The top comment reads, “Trump looking lean and mean!”
Continuing, Wikie noted that, though some suspect that the former president could be taking Ozempic to shed some weight, as many Americans are doing, it could also be that he has time to exercise more. Making that point, Wikie noted that though Trump’s White House physician reported he was 239 pounds in 2018, as of his booking in Fulton County in 2023, Trump weighed in at 215. Winkie added, “another doctor’s report last year also noted a ‘weight reduction,’ attributing it to ‘an improved diet and continued daily physical activity.'”
More exercise leading to weight loss could make sense, as Trump is a noted golfer and, living at Mar-a-Lago and out of office, he would presumably have more time to golf and focus on staying leaner and healthier through exercise on the course.
