Speaking to Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity on Tuesday, July 16, about reports that the Islamic Republic of Iran plotted to have former President Donald Trump, his beloved father, assassinated, saying that the deep hatred and fear the Islamists in Iran have for his steel-spined father is “maybe the great political endorsement ever.”
That came when the eldest Trump son, who is the more politically involved of Trump’s children, gave a live interview from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, with the interview occurring just as the wounded former president arrived for the convention’s second night with a large, highly visible bandage over his right ear.
Trump Jr. said, commenting on what the reports of the plot show for his father and warning that the Iranians have more resources at their disposal than the Butler, PA, shooter, “I think it’s sort of a great endorsement. When people like Iran want to take you out, that probably means it’s good for America, bad for Iran. That may be the greatest political endorsement ever. But when that happens, their capabilities are much more than a kid with a rifle.”
Trump Jr. also joked, when Hannity asked him how the Saturday assassination attempt affected him personally, “It was allergies.” He then added, a bit more seriously, “Not a lot of crying in the Trump family, but that moment, it was so heavy. 48 hours later…just the emotion…but also the love that we felt here. What I saw over the last couple days here in Milwaukee was just incredible.”
Watch them here:
The Islamic Republic of Iran denied the reports of its attempted plot to assassinate the former president in a statement promulgated by the Islamic Republic News Agency, which quoted Iran’s mission to the United Nations as saying:
‘These accusations are unsubstantiated and malicious,” the mission said.
It pointed out that from the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, “Trump is a criminal who must be prosecuted and punished in a court of law for ordering the assassination of General Soleimani”.
“Iran has chosen the legal path to bring him to justice,” the Iranian mission further added.
During a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, a 20-year-old man named Thomas Matthew Crooks fired several shots at Trump from his semi-automatic rifle, one of which hit his ear and three other shots hit the attendees. During this incident, two people, including the shooter, were killed and two others were injured.
The Trump campaign was reportedly not made aware that the assassination plot threat was Iranian, with a source telling NBC News, “The Trump campaign was informed in passing by USSS leadership of a general uptick in threats against President Trump, but were not made aware of any specific threats related to Iranian individuals or groups.”
Additionally, a national security official told NBC News that the White House National Security Council told senior officials at the Secret Service “to be absolutely sure [the Secret Service officials] continued to track the latest reporting,” and that the Trump campaign was informed about “an evolving threat.”
