In yet another blow to the cowardly Democratic Reps who fled Texas to block a redistricting vote, Governor Greg Abbott warned them that they would face arrest upon returning, which he claims could last “literally years.” While speaking to ‘Fox News Sunday,’ he reaffirmed his authority to call an unlimited number of special sessions, and punish the Democrats for their actions.
For context, Abbott blasted the Democrats for violating their congressional duties and suggested expanding the redistricting effort to cost the Democrats even more seats. Roughly 50 Democrats, with support from the Governors of New York and Illinois, have left the state to prevent a quorum.
In any case, Abbot began his high-energy response by establishing his constitutional authority. He told FNC, “I’m authorized to call a special session every 30 days. It lasts 30 days. And as soon as this one is over, I’m gonna call another one, then another one, then another, then another one.”
Continuing his remarks, he gave an ominous warning to the cowardly Democrats. He stated, “If they show back up in the state of Texas, they will be arrested and taken to the Capitol. If they want to evade that arrest, they’re gonna have to stay outside of the state of Texas for literally years.”
Explaining this shocking dereliction of duty, the Republican governor continued, “We have a situation where lawmakers are violating the law in Article 3 of the Texas Constitution, where they are required to act on bills. Because they’re violating that constitutional mandate, that means they are not fulfilling their oath of office, and they can be removed from office in this legal action that I’m taking.”
In a separate appearance on the same topic, Abbott pondered taking away even more blue seats as a punishment for the missing politicians. He explained, “What I’m thinking now is that if they don’t start showing up, I may start expanding. We may make it six or seven or eight new seats we’re going to be adding on the Republican side.”
As we reported, Ken Paxton, the hard-nosed Texas AG, has been on the offensive, promising retribution to these derelict representatives and those who support them. Reacting to a fundraising text from failed Democrat Beto O’Rourke, which said, “The guy impeached for bribery is going after the folks trying to stop the theft of five Congressional seats. I encourage everyone to text FIGHT to 20377. Let’s stop these thugs before they steal our country,” the AG promised vengeance.

A press release from AG Ken Paxton’s office summarized the serious investigation. The statement said, “According to public reports, Powered by People [Beto’s PAC] has been one of the top groups bankrolling the Texas House Democrat members who abandoned Texans and vacated their offices. By providing these liberal lawmakers with the funds to flee the state, Powered by People may have violated bribery laws.”
Providing additional context, the document read, “Powered by People and the runaway Democrats may have also violated other Texas laws, including, but not limited to, those governing campaign or officeholder contributions and expenditures, coercion of a public servant, and abuse of office.”
Leaving no room for doubt, Paxton slammed these selfish Democrats. He said, “Any Democrat coward breaking the law by taking a Beto Bribe will be held accountable. Texas cannot be bought.” Continuing his verbal beatdown, he stated, “Democrats have abandoned their offices by fleeing Texas, and a failure to respond to a call of the House constitutes a dereliction of their duty as elected officials.”
