Taunting President Joe Biden and hammering his border policy over the weekend, following the announcement of a DOJ suit against Texas over its border barrier construction, Gov. Abbott highlighted the success of Texas’ “Operation Lonestar” border defense effort and pledged to not back down to the Biden regime on the issue.
First came a tweet about the success of the operation in stopping the flow of highly lethal drugs into Texas and America. Gov. Abbott said: “Texas Has Seized More Than 422 Million Lethal Doses of Fentanyl Since 2021. More than enough to kill all Americans. We have also made 394,200 illegal-immigrant apprehensions and 31,300 criminal arrests. All because Biden is not doing his job.”

The next day, Gov. Abbott vowed to fight the border policy battle in court rather than surrendering to the Biden regime’s demands, saying, “President Biden’s Dept. of Justice threatened to sue Texas over the marine barriers we deployed on the Rio Grande. Mr. President, Texas will see you in court. Texas will fully utilize our sovereign authority to deal with the humanitarian crisis Biden created at our border.”
He added, “A UN agency named the U.S.-Mexico border the deadliest land crossing in the world — long before Texas deployed razor wire or marine barriers. Biden’s open border policies encourage migrants to risk their lives. This crisis is on his watch.”

In the attached letter, Gov. Abbott said, in part, “If you truly care about human life, you must begin enforcing federal immigration laws. By doing so, you can help me stop migrants from wagering their lives in the waters of the Rio Grande River. You can also help me save Texans, and indeed all Americans, from deadly drugs like
fentanyl, cartel violence, and the horrors of human trafficking. To end the risk that migrants will be harmed crossing the border illegally, you must fully enforce the laws of the United States that prohibit illegal immigration between ports of entry. In the meantime, Texas will fully utilize its constitutional authority to deal with the crisis you have caused.”
Following that up with another tweet, Gov. Abbott said, “If President Biden truly cared about human life, he would enforce federal immigration laws. In the meantime, Texas will fully utilize its sovereign authority to respond to the border crisis Biden created. #OperationLoneStar will continue to hold the line.”

Gov. Abbott also spoke to Fox News Channel’s Brett Baier about the issue, saying that Texas will not back down as the Biden Administration attempts to use the DOJ to force it to bow down to insane border policies. Captioning a clip of the interview he posted to Twitter, Gov. Abbott said, “Texas will see the Biden Administration in court to aggressively defend our sovereign authority to secure the border. Biden’s open border policies created this humanitarian disaster. Texas will continue to exercise our constitutional right to respond.”

As you can hear in the clip, Gov. Abbott told Baier that Texas’ border policy is in the national interest and that he’s not worried about the DOJ suit, saying, “It is in the public interest for the state of Texas to be safeguarding and securing our border for people entering the United States illegally for another. We believe that statute does not apply in any way. Because what the state of Texas is doing through those buoys is not in violation of this statute. So where are they going to go to court here when they file the suit, what happens? You’re gonna have a judge down in Texas on the federal level. Yeah. So, Brett, a lawsuit was filed a few hours ago in federal court in the state of Texas. We will litigate initially in federal district court in the state of Texas. If we lose there, we will be going to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and eventually all the way to the United States Supreme Court because Texas is defending its sovereignty and its constitutional right to secure the border of our state and our country.”
