Rep. Keith Self (R-TX), the representative who had an argument with transgender lawmaker Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) on Tuesday, March 11, in which he called Rep. McBride “Mister,” revealed in a post made to X on Friday, March 14 that he has received so many credible death threats from the left that he has to cancel an in-person constituent event.
As background, the original Tuesday incident that appears to have sparked the threats occurred during a House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe Subcommittee hearing titled ”Arms Control, International Security, & U.S. Assistance to Europe: Review and Reforms for the State Department.”
Rep. Self said, during the hearing, “I will now recognize the representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride.” That sparked a prolonged spat between Rep. Self and Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA) over the proper pronouns to use in such a forum as a House of Representatives hearing. Rep. Keating got quite heated, screaming at Rep. Self and banging his fists on the table.
It was that interaction that allegedly sparked the death threats received by Rep. Self, as he announced in his Friday post on X in which he explained how the violent, horrid rhetoric he has received en masse from the left since the pronoun argument meant he had to cancel his event with his constituents.
Beginning his post, Rep. Self explained that there are times in life where he thinks it is worth disengaging from the conflict so as to avoid further losses, or to just avoid continuing the entire mess. Making that point, the Texan said, “In life as in war, there are times to engage and times to disengage.”
Continuing, he added that he has received a number of utterly vile death threats, along with other threats and messages, and that those threats of violence against him are being investigated by law enforcement officers. He said, “In recent days, the rhetoric from the left has turned vile and hateful. My office received multiple death threats and threats of violence—several of which are currently being investigated by authorities.”
He then noted that he had decided to cancel the next day’s planned constituent event, as allowing it to continue would place lives at risk, and also potentially lead to damage to the business that was to host him. He said, “Rather than place constituents, their families, and their property in harm’s way, I’ve decided to err on the side of caution and postpone Saturday’s Koffee with Keith in Greenville, Texas.”

Concluding, the representative said that he looks forward to re-engaging with his constituents “soon,” by which he appeared to mean he would do in-person events again once this situation blows over. He said, “I look forward to re-engaging with constituents again very soon. God bless, Keith Self.”
In another post on X, this one coming on Wednesday, March 12, a day after the hearing incident, the representative noted that some of the messages he has gotten have been positive. He said, “A call my office received regarding yesterday’s hearing. God bless this woman. ‘Democrats don’t like it when you speak Biblical truth. But we stand with you. And America stands with you. So continue to stand strong, and as Trump said, there are only two sexes—and we stand by that.’”
