The Senate Majority Whip, John Barrasso (R-WY), slammed Democrats for cynically using the judiciary to oppose President Trump’s agenda unconstitutionally. Barrasso specifically singled out U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani, who blocked Congress from defunding Planned Parenthood through Medicaid.
For context, Barrasso called for “radicals in robes” to step down, citing the 40 injunctions nationwide that have sought to prevent the president from enacting sorely needed policies. Offering a solution, the majority whip indicated his support for the Judicial Relief Clarification Act, which aims to curb judicial overreach.
Such was shown when Sen. John Barrasso issued a full-throated denunciation of the radical judges who seek to oppose Trump. Barrasso declared, “It’s time to rein in rogue judges,” explaining, “Democrats have used the courts to try to reverse President Trump’s popular policies. Democrats are not seeking unbiased review. They are using the courts as a political tool.”
Describing how absurd these injunctions are, the Wyoming Republican offered much-needed perspective. Barrasso said, “One judge in one district – trying to dictate and derail national policy. Here we go again. This is another example of radicals in robes undermining the elected branches of government.”
Citing the Constitution to back up his arguments, the principled conservative set the record straight on activist judges. Sen. Barrasso stated, “The Constitution is clear. Congress controls federal spending. The power of the purse belongs to Congress. It does not belong to unelected district court judges with a gavel and a grudge.”
Concluding his remarks, the majority whip explained just how absurd Judge Indira Talwani’s ruling was. He said, “It just can’t be right that one district judge can stop a nationwide policy in its tracks and leave it stopped for the years it takes to go through the normal process.”
Adding to this epic takedown, conservative darling Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) declared, “Unless I’m missing something, this is an abuse of judicial power, and unless there’s more to the story here, I suspect the House Judiciary Committee will consider articles of impeachment.”

Other Republicans, such as Mary Miller (IL), offered similar opinions. She stated, “An unelected judge has no authority to override the will of 77 MILLION Americans who voted to defund Planned Parenthood,” adding, “Last time I checked, the Constitution gives Congress, not activist judges, the power of the purse. This abuse of power must be stopped.”
As we reported, the Department of Homeland Security was able to deport eight illegal aliens to South Sudan after the Supreme Court overturned a futile attempt by Democratic judges to block the Trump administration from removing criminals from the country.
Announcing the victory, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin announced, “These sickos were finally deported to South Sudan on Independence Day. After weeks of delays by activist judges that put our law enforcement in danger, ICE deported these eight barbaric criminal illegal aliens who are so heinous even their own countries will not accept them.”
Building on this point, she added, “These are not just immigration cases. These are threats to American communities that judges tried to force ICE to return to the United States. This was a win for the rule of law, safety, and security of the American people.”
