Tom Brady was back in Foxborough for the weekend to watch the New England Patriots opener at Gillette Stadium, where he led the team to six Super Bowl victories over 20 seasons as quarterback, 3 of which he was the MVP.
Brady announced his return on X (formerly known as Twitter), saying, “Good to be back.” Included in the post was a picture of the six Super Bowl trophies he won as the quarterback for the New England Patriots. Check that out here:
He made a similar post on Instagram, though instead of featuring the six trophies, it featured the six rings he earned over his time as Patriots quarterback. Mr. Brady earned his first Super Bowl triumph with the Patriots in 2001, then followed it up with titles in 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016, and 2018.
Despite his switch to the Buccaneers for the last three seasons of his career, Mr. Brady appears to have mended fences with the Patriots. Patriots CEO Robert Kraft, speaking to the New York Post in June about Mr. Brady returning to Foxborough, suggested that whatever broken fences there were had been mended.
Speaking on that, he said, “We always knew he was a Patriot at heart and we wanted him back here — and we want our fans to be able to recognize everything he did for us and how special he is. When I made him the offer, he accepted right away… And, I mean, the demand for tickets for that game is unbelievable, so we look forward to honoring him.”
In another, August, interview, Mr. Kraft said, “I’ve spoken to Tom a couple of times. Always look forward to seeing Tom and what a great experience and opportunity it was for me to coach Tom. Tremendous appreciation for everything he did for me, did for our team, everything he gave us. Look forward to seeing him.”
A post from the Patriots’ Twitter account also indicated that the once-broken relationship between the two men was mended as well, as it showed the two titans standing behind the Super Bowl trophies that Mr. Brady led the team to win during his time as quarterback. Check it out here:
Further, while in Foxborough and watching the game, Brady got the Patriots fans riled up by ringing the Gillette Stadium’s new lighthouse bell. The stadium’s $250 million renovation was recently completed, just in time for the 2023 season, with many of its features and amenities updated alongside the bell.
He also gave a speech during the halftime ceremony in which he, besides thanking everyone who had helped him in his career, said, “We dealt with whatever came our way. We dealt with a lot of adversities and it toughed us up. And we, as a team, represented you guys every time we took the field. It’s one of my core beliefs — there’s nothing significant in life that can be accomplished as an individual. It’s always about the team. We [had] a culture of teammates and cared about two things. They cared about each other and they cared about winning. And if you didn’t care about those two things, you did not last here very long. And we were very happy to play against you. So I think we proved to America what teamwork’s all about. We prove that believing in each other, believing in playing for this community, and believing in playing for a common mission, we were able to pull down six of those banners and celebrate them in this stadium.”
