Mark Wahlberg is known as one of the better dudes in Hollywood. The “Father Stu” star and restauranteur is just another in a long list of celebs, businesses, and individuals to flee the decaying husk of California for greener, or more specifically, “redder’ pastures.
Wahlberg is a devoted family man with a wife and four kids, and the 51-year-old star saw the writing on the wall and moved to Vegas for his kids. He recently opened up on the move: “It’s really giving the kids a chance to thrive.”
Wahlberg went on to elaborate: “It just has the best of both worlds. I know a lot of people, when they think Las Vegas, they think the Strip. But just about 15, 20 minutes away, there’s a whole lot of other amazing areas that are all about family and community.”
Indeed the strip is the first thing to come to mind, but lying just outside of the glitz and glamour of Vegas proper are also communities of regular people. Wahlberg desires his family keep company with these folks as opposed to Hollyweirdos. Who can blame him?

Wahlberg listed his Beverly Hills estate and purchased a house in The Summit Club in Summerlin, just outside of Las Vegas. Being the good dad he is, he did it all for his kids, saying the move was about: “really about giving the kids an opportunity to pursue their goals and dreams.” “My daughter’s an equestrian. My son’s a golfer. My oldest daughter, now she’s off to college. My son’s a junior.”
The Hollywood veteran also sees the potential in Vegas for growth and industry. He talked openly about wanting to create jobs and make Nevada a better place: “There’s lots of opportunity here as well for me. We’re trying to create a studio. We’re trying to build the shoe factory. We want to create lots of jobs here.”
In an interview back in October, Wahlberg spoke more of his reasoning, and his plans for his new home base: “I moved to Nevada where, after this gubernatorial election, hopefully it will go to legislation and get a bill passed so we can get a tax credit for the state — build a state-of-the-art studio here and make this Hollywood 2.0.”
Besides hoping to make Vegas a desired spot to produce more movies, and let’s face it, we probably need a rebooted Hollywood, Wahlberg also has a vested interest in the shoe re-sale industry with StockX as well as his own clothing line, Municipal, which he hopes to produce in Las Vegas.
However, for the former head of the “Funky Bunch”, it’s really all about the family. He went on to say:
“We’re always looking for new opportunities and new adventures,” he said. “I hope to create of a lot of opportunity here. And I moved to California originally to make movies. I’ve made three movies in the last 15 years in LA. So, as you know, it’s been difficult. “The kids are really happy, and it’s all about them.”
A lot about Hollywood turns people off. It is a liberal cesspool of self-congratulating blowhards out of touch with reality. We need more Mark Wahlberg and more people willing to put their families ahead of everything else.
