Golf legend Phil Mickelson slammed Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, calling him a “traitor” for opposing the SAVE Act. Schumer went on an insane screed against the act, which would restrict non-citizen voting, prompting a takedown from Mickelson.
For context, the SAVE Act, or the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, is a proposed law designed to ensure only citizens vote in federal elections. The act would require states to verify citizenship at voting locations to prevent fraud in elections.
Such was shown in the inciting post from conservative pundit Eric Daughterty, which features Schumer’s meltdown on the Senate floor. The initial tweet, which was made on April 30, 2025, stated, “🚨 JUST IN: Chuck Schumer announces that the SAVE Act, which requires proof of citizenship to register to vote nationwide, is DONE. Won’t go to Trump’s desk. DOA. It needs 60 votes. Schumer turned around, looked at Republicans, and gloated as he said this.”
Reacting to the post, the golfer declared, “How is this fighting for Americans? How is letting non citizens vote in American elections a good thing? It is NOT! He is not representing America, its citizens nor their best interests. He’s a traitor.”
Swiping at Mickelson, a snarky liberal replied, “Plot twist. Non citizens don’t vote in federal elections.” However, the golf legend was undeterred and fired back an epic response. He said, “Then this bill shouldn’t be a problem. Those who live in CA are acutely aware of how many non citizens vote and undermine the system and our country.”
Adding context, the video of Schumer featured the California Democrats’ unhinged rant on the SAVE Act. Schumer said, “They don’t understand the sacredness of elections and keeping them fair. The kind of legislation, the kind of executive orders, which are so jaundiced, so slanted on the side of one party, are the antithesis of democracy on the one side.”
The California Senator continued his absurd ravings and turned his attention to the president. He complained, “Donald Trump recently issued an executive order that coerced states to prevent millions of Americans from voting. On the other hand, Republicans in Congress are pushing the Save Act, one of the most destructive, dangerous voter suppression bills in recent memory.”

Theatrically connecting the bill to past tragedies, the cynical Schumer whined, “It is very reminiscent of Jim Crow. That’s what Republicans want to do. They want to restore. They want to not only restore Jim Crow in the south, they want to have Jim Crow spread from one end of this country to the other. It will not happen. It will not happen.”

Concluding his ravings, Schumer promised to defeat the bill. He declared, “Let me be clear. I will not let this noxious bill, the Save Act, become law. Every Senate Democrat, every single one of us, is united against it. They need 60 votes. The Save Act is dead on arrival. I’d like to say it louder so my friends in the House and in the right wing over here can hear the Save Act is dead on arrival.”
