“God — Is All Right There”: Singer Raves about New Life in Red State, Her Faith

Pop singer Gwen Stefani is married to country music superstar Blake Shelton and, as his bride since 2021, is living with him on his ranch in his native state of Oklahoma, a state she has grown to love because of his deeply entrenched values and the omnipresent nature, both of which make it far different than California.

Stefani spoke about her new life on the rustic ranch in an interview with People, discussing mainly how she adjusted to her new mode of living and what she thinks about living on a ranch rather than in the usual haunts of entertainers.

Speaking about how one is surrounded by nature and God in Oklahoma, Stefani said, “I am not really a dirt person, a bug person, I don’t like that much humidity. But it’s so beautiful [in Oklahoma], and you kind of feel like you’re going into this vortex. Nature — and God — is all right there.”

Continuing, she said her new life is far different from what she imagined as a young girl, saying, “When I was young, I’d walk home from school and see my mom in her shorts doing her gardening, and my dad would be cutting the trees and make me pick up the branches. I’d be like, ‘I’m never having a tree at my house.’”

She added that she now finds the same joy in working the soil that her parents did, saying, “When we get to Oklahoma, we’re constantly working — and it’s a different kind of work. It’s probably what my mom was doing back in the day, and now I get it!”

Stefani also said that her relationship with Shelton, whom she met on”The Voice” in 2014, was unexpected, saying, “I didn’t see any of this coming with Blake. This was just a big old ‘What?’ It was an amazing gift to experience love like that for the first time. He’s changed my life … when I [started dating] Blake, that’s when I felt home, like, ‘Oh, this is where I’m supposed to be, with this guy.”

And, speaking about how her life seemed to fall apart when her first marriage collapsed, Stefani said, “Everybody pretty much knows that at one point my life fell apart. It was terrible, and there’s so many people out there that have gone through the same thing. When that happened, I had to literally start over again. It was a reset of my life.”

But, as with many people, prayer and faith helped her through it. Speaking on that, she said, “Everybody pretty much knows that at one point my life fell apart. It was terrible, and there’s so many people out there that have gone through the same thing. When that happened, I had to literally start over again. It was a reset of my life.”
