Recently, Former President Donald Trump was processed in an Atlanta jail in relation to one of the indictments against him. However, according to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, this has had the opposite effect that Democrats were hoping for.
Gingrich appeared on Mark Levin’s “Life, Liberty, & Levin,” where he explained how Americans have been continually waking up to the reality of the prosecution against Trump. Many people see the attacks against Trump as targeted persecution. Accordingly, each time the state has gone after the former president, his poll numbers have increased, and his support grows stronger.
The Republican explained how Trump is more than just a political candidate and that the attacks against him represent the corruption of our political system.“I think that Trump is not a candidate — Trump is the leader of a movement,” Gingrich said. “He’s the personification of an establishment that is totally corrupt, destroying anything that gets in its way.”
Gingrich also addressed Trump’s increasing support from the black community, stating his prosecution mirrors their experiences with the justice system. “The reason is simple: They feel that the police have harassed them,” Gingrich said. “They’re now watching the government harass Trump. They actually identify with what he’s going through.”
The prominent Republican stated that while some people may disagree with Trump’s conduct, they still support the overall movement that he represents. Many Americans distrust the entire political establishment in Washington D.C., feeling it is far removed from their values.
“I think many people who may or may not like Trump’s personality, but they look at this and they think, ‘Here are my choices. I’m going to side with a totally corrupt administration or I’m going to side with the guy who has the guts to stand there and take the beating and keep coming.”
Gingrich also suggested that if Trump had left the political sphere altogether after the 2020 election, none of the indictments or legal measures would have manifested. However, he claimed Trump’s interest in genuinely making America Great Again supersedes his own comfort. “If he’d retired, none of these charges would ever have occurred,” he said, “‘You know, the country is worth going through this,’ and I think that’s given him support in places that normally wouldn’t have supported him.”
Gingrich said he believes Trump’s popularity could very well carry him to a victory in the upcoming election. Based on some polling numbers, it’s all but certain he will take the Republican nominee. “I think that the country is in fact going to nominate Trump, and I think Trump has a very high likelihood of winning the general election.”
The American Tribune recently reported on a statement from Donald Trump Jr., who also discussed how “people are waking up” amid the political action against his father. He said that Trump is an existential threat to the existing political order and that it is fighting tooth and nail to take him down.
“Now with that knowledge, and Trump knows where those people are and who they are and won’t bring them in, that’s the biggest threat to the deep state. It’s the biggest threat to the uniparty. It’s the biggest threat to the RINOS because if he gets four years and now, I’d say he’s a little, he’s got a little bit of grievance, rightfully so. They’ve tried to jail him. One of the offenses could put him to death. They’re worried he’ll dismantle it all, and they know he’s the only guy that could actually get it done,” he stated.
