Former President Donald Trump recently sounded off on Fox News and Paul Ryan, who sits on the board of its parent company, Fox Corporation. In recent years, the former Vice President and speaker of the House has been the subject of intense criticism from MAGA Republicans suggesting he is not loyal to the party’s cause.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee wrote a scathing message about Ryan and his position at the media company on his social media platform, Truth Social. According to Trump, the conservative news network cannot be trusted under Ryan’s leadership.
Trump slammed Ryan as a “total lightweight” and suggested his speakership in the House of Representatives was ineffective. He further questioned Ryan’s loyalty and urged Rupert Murdoch, Chairman Emeritus of Fox Corporation and News Corp., and his son Lachlan Murdoch, CEO of Fox Corporation, to “get that dog off your Board.”
“Nobody can ever trust Fox News, and I am one of them, with the weak and ineffective RINO, Paul Ryan, on its Board of Directors. He’s a total lightweight, a failed and pathetic Speaker of the House, and a very disloyal person. Romney was bad, but Paul Ryan made him look worse. As a team, they never had a chance. Rupert and Lachlan, get that dog off your Board – You don’t need him. ALL YOU NEED IS TRUMP. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump said.
Trump’s comments toward Ryan followed a Fox News interview in which host Neil Cavuto asked the former House Speaker if he thinks Trump is still an “authoritarian narcissist.” Cavuto noted that Ryan’s previous criticisms against Trump were “pretty strong.”
Ryan affirmed that he still holds that view of the former president despite having voted for him in 2016. He emphasized how important an elected official’s character is, particularly for the president, while claiming Trump saw himself as “above the Constitution.”
“That’s the way I feel,” Ryan said. “I voted for him in 2016, hoping that there was gonna be a different kind of person in office. And I do think character is a really important issue. If you put yourself above the Constitution as he has done that shows you’re unfit for office.” However, Ryan maintained that this did not indicate he was a supporter of Biden’s either. “I don’t support Biden either,” he clarified. “I think his policies are terrible.”
The American Tribune reported on comments from Paul Ryan in 2022 where he emphasized that he is a “never-again-Trumper.” He stated, “I was – I – I governed with him. And I’m very proud of those days. I’m proud of the accomplishments of the tax reform, the deregulation, of criminal justice reform. I’m really excited about the judges we got on the bench, not just the Supreme Court, but throughout the judiciary. But I am a never-again-Trumper. Why? Because I want to win. And we lose with Trump. It was really clear to us in ’18, in ’20, and now in 2022.”
Furthermore, it was reported last month that Ryan would write in a candidate on the ballot instead of casting his vote for Trump. Ryan doubled down on his claim that Trump lacked the necessary character to lead as the President of the United States.
