Things got spicy when twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show” on Monday, April 1. Far from it being a funny April Fool’s Day appearance, the interview got awkward when Clinton snapped on those who don’t want to vote for either Biden or Trump, telling them to “get over” themselves.
As background, Clinton’s comments come amidst the Biden Campaign’s struggle to compete with former President Donald Trump. That is particularly true given the run of third-party contender Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who holds populist positions on some issues but is generally on the left, thus leading some in the Biden camp to worry that RFK Jr. will draw more voters away from Biden than Trump.
When she appeared on Fallon’s show, ostensibly to promote her current gig as a Broadway producer for a play called Suffs, which is about the suffragettes, Fallon asked her what she would tell voters who may be “upset that those are the two choices,” meaning current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
Laughing, Fallon continued, “I mean, it’s [President Joe Biden] versus [former President Donald Trump]. We know that.” Clinton, not really playing along with the laughing aspect, deadpanned, “Yes. It is. It is.” Continuing regardless, Fallon asked her, “What do you say to voters who are upset that those are the two choices?”
Clinton then told voters to “get over” themselves, saying, “Get over yourself, those are the two choices.” Fallon agreed with her, saying, “Yeah. I love that.” Clinton continued, “You know, it’s kind of like, one is old and effective and compassionate, has a heart, and really cares about people, and one is old and has been charged with 91 felonies. I don’t understand why this is even a hard choice. Really. I don’t understand it.”
Not yet done, Clinton then started going on about “democracy,” hinting that America itself is “at stake” in this election. She said, “But we have to go through the election and hopefully people will realize what’s at stake because it’s an existential question. What kind of country we’re going to have, what kind of democracy we’re going to have.”
Still going on, Clinton went on the attack against former President Trump directly, telling Fallon and his viewers, “And people who blow that off are not paying attention, because it’s not like Trump, his enablers, his empowers, his allies are not telling us what they want to do. I mean, they’re pretty clear about what kind of country they want.”

Fallon agreed, encouraging people to get out and vote. Clinton, agreeing, told him and all the viewers to get out and vote, though presumably she meant for Biden, not Trump or for any of the other third parties she was telling people to “get over” just moments before when calling on voters to make sure Trump doesn’t get back in office. She said, “Get out there. This is a that’s what this is really about. Get out there and vote.”
