Posting on X (formerly Twitter) in the wake of the horrific assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, longtime Hollywood star Tim Robbins condemned the sickening attack and then called on those who dislike the former president to get over their “blind hatred” of him, particularly as it comes to suggesting that the incident was some sort of Trump-managed conspiracy.
Doing so, Mr. Robbings. referenced his his 1992 film Bob Roberts, a political comedy in which a false flag assassination occurs, laying suspicion on both of the film’s main characters, millionaire conservative Bob Roberts, played by Tim Robbins, and investigative journalist Bugs Raplin, played by Giancarlo Esposito. Robbins, in the film, does campaign rallies by far-right conservative social and economic views through 60s-style acoustic songs.
Posting about the conspiracy theories about the Trump assassination attempt that reference that film of his, Mr. Robbins wrote, in an X post viewed millions of times, “To anyone drawing a parallel between my film Bob Roberts and the attempted assassination of Trump, let’s be clear. What happened yesterday was a real attempt on a presidential candidate’s life.”
Continuing, he pointed out how evil and awful the assassination attempt was even without the conspiracy theories, saying, “Those that are denying the assassination attempt was real are truly in a deranged mindset. A human being was shot yesterday. Another killed. They may not be human beings that you agree with politically but for shame folks.”
Concluding, he called on people to get over the deep hatred they hold in their hears for the other side and instead start trying to see each other as fellow Americans rather than enemies. He said, “Get over your blind hatred of these people. They are fellow Americans. This collective hatred is killing our souls and consuming whatever is left of our humanity.”
Watch Trump triumphantly pump his fist after surviving the attack here:
Wendell Pierce, another famous actor, also condemned the attack on X. He wrote, “There is no place in America for political violence. This assassination attempt was a dark day for America. I condemn the attempt to murder the former President. America knows the pain of political violence. When a Republican President was assassinated. When a Democratic President was assassinated. America knows the pain of political violence.”
He added, “We know the pain of that violence when thousands were murdered for attempting to register and vote for decades. America knows the pain of political violence like The Colfax Massacre in Louisiana, the Wilmington Massacre in North Carolina, Goodman, Chaney & Swerner (Black, White, Christian, and Jewish) murdered for registering voters.”
Mr. Pierce also said, speaking about yet another example of abominable political violence and tragedy stemming from its occurrence, “America knows the pain of political violence, like the women of the National Women’s Party, arrested on their hunger strike, tortured and forced fed because they wanted the right to vote.”
