The family of a Georgia woman in her 60s claims that she was kidnapped and then burned and cut by an assailant while she tried to leave her workplace, an accounting firm in Tucker, Georgia. The family, which spoke to the DeKalb County Police Department about the horrifying incident, says the incident occurred shortly before the firm closed at 5:30 pm.

According to the family, 11 Alive reports, the elderly woman was approached by an unknown man was she attempted to leave her workplace, He demanded she let him into the business and, when she refused, the man kidnapped her. He did so by forcing her into her vehicle and making her drive to an ATM, at which he demanded she withdraw money from her account and give it to him.

As the man forced the woman to drive to the ATM, he allegedly burned her face and cut her across her body, including her face. After she withdrew money from the ATM, the assault and kidnapping continued, with the man forcing her to drive him back to her workplace.

Fortunately, once there, she was able to get away from him and make her way a few hundred yards down the road to DeKalb County Fire Station 22. According to 11 Alive, when she pulled into the fire department parking lot, she made enough noise to get the attention of the one crew member who was awake. That crew member then woke up the other firefighters at the station, including Captain Eafford.

Speaking about the situation to 11 Alive, Captain Eafford said that once the fire department had been alerted to the woman’s condition and situation, it notified the police department, which then dispatched officers to the area to handle the kidnapping and assault. As the ambulance team was at the fire station, the woman was able to receive medical attention.

Captain Eafford, commenting on the situation, said, “Here in DeKalb, anything can happen, but a walk-up like that, I believe it is rare.” Continuing, she explained that the medical unit was able to help her immediately, saying, “We had a DeKalb Fire Rescue transport unit in the house that was able to take her immediately; no wait at all.”

Eafford then explained that it was fortunate that the department’s crew members were there and able to help the woman, saying, “It was a blessing for her to be able to come to us and for us to be here as well.” She reiterated how unusual the situation was, saying, “It’s an unusual thing to have someone come to us in such a state.”
