According to recent reports, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis might face an unexpected twist in the investigations into her alleged relationship with Nathan Wade. Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the Georgia Senate committee investigating Willis has subpoenaed defense attorney Ashleigh Merchant to testify.
Merchant is the attorney of one of the alleged Trump co-conspirators, who is thought to have damning information against the Fulton County DA and the controversial relationship between her and Nathan Wade. Things appeared to be swaying in Willis’ favor after the testimony of Wade’s former law partner, Terrence Bradley, seemed to provide questionable evidence. However, Merchant’s testimony could drastically change the dynamics of the investigation.
Legal analyst Phil Holloway wrote on X, “The #FaniWillis saga takes on a new twist. Sources have confirmed that the GA Senate committee looking into the Fulton DA have subpoenaed Attorney Ashleigh Merchant to testify Wednesday, 3-6-24. The hearing will be live streamed and is open to the public.” He added, “This is more than a subpoena for records of Merchant’s communications with Bradley as previously announced. I would expect questioning to involve all relevant issues related to her dealings with Willis’s office.”
The American Tribune recently reported that there were texts between Terrence Holloway, Nathan Wade’s former divorce attorney, and Merchant. The messages allegedly show that the Willis-Wade affair began long before the two had acknowledged it, fueling conflict of interest speculations.
George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley suggested the new filing contradicts the prior statements of Nathan Wade’s law partner. If Merchant’s account is valid, it could be highly damaging to Willis.
“There is a new filing in the Fani Willis case that contradicts the much maligned testimony of Nathan Wade’s former partner Terrence Bradley. A prosecutor has come forward to say that Bradley told him with clarity of the personal relationship began earlier,” he wrote on X.
The American Tribune reported on other recent developments in the investigations into Fani Willis, where Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Jim Jordan provided major updates on a whistleblower from within the district attorney’s office.
While speaking at CPAC 2024, Jordan stated, “We’ll see what we get, but there’s a whistleblower in her office who we have talked to our committee staff. And she the whistleblower I think she’s like four foot eleven. But Fani Willis had seven police like escort her out when when she fired this lady, because this lady raised the concern that Miss Willis was not spending federal funds in the, not following the grant the rules of the grant and the grant dollars in the appropriate manner.”
Jordan further claimed that the whistleblower was fired for raising concerns about financial misconduct. “So she raised this concern and Fani Willis fired her. She’s now talking with our office, and we’ll see where that goes. And that’s why we we subpoenaed for records and documents related to this. We’ll see what we get. There’s still a few hours left in today. She also was interesting. She instead of accepting service on the subpoena, she made us send the US Marshals even though our office had talked with her office, we’ve had correspondence back and forth. She made the US Marshals take the subpoena there. So go figure this is Fani Willis,” he continued.
