The Georgia government continues to move the ball forward in the quest to investigate and, if necessary, hold Fulton County DA Fani Willis accountable for her alleged misuse of funds in her relationship with Special Counsel Nathan Wade and prosecution of former President Donald Trump and 18 members of his campaign and legal teams from 2020. Now, that has taken the form of Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones reportedly preparing to name the nine members of the new investigatory committee to look into her.
That committee, approved by the Georgia legislature in the wake of the allegations against DA Willis, will be bipartisan, made up of six Republicans and three Democrats. Its goal will be to investigate DA Willis’s relationship with special counsel Nathan Wade, her alleged lover, and whether she misused taxpayer funds with her relationship and investigation.
Speaking to the Daily Caller News Foundation about the committee and the responsibility to look into DA Willis, Lt. Gov. Jones said, “The Georgia Senate has the right and responsibility to investigate misuse of taxpayer resources by public officials. I have full faith in the members of this investigative committee, chosen this morning by the Committee on Assignments, and their efforts to pursue the truth wherever it may lead.”
Continuing, Lt. Gov. Jones said that the committee getting started advances the ball one step forward in the attempt to discover the truth and, if necessary and appropriate, hold DA Willis accountable for her alleged misdeeds. He said, “With this announcement, we are one step closer to uncovering the truth behind Fani Willis, her relationship with Mr. Wade, and the misuse of taxpayer funds.”
In a letter to the Georgia Secretary of State, David Cook, Lt. Gov. Jones said, “Dear Secretary Cook, As you know, the Senate recently adopted Senate Resolution 465, which created the Senate Special Committee on Investigations. Pursuant to its authority under the resolution, the Senate Committee on Assignments has made the following appointments to the committee.”
Continuing, he gave the nine names, saying, “Senator Bill Cowsert (District 46), who shall serve as chair; Senator Greg Dolezal (District 28), who shall serve as vice chair; Senator Jason Esteves (District 6); Senator John Kennedy (District 18); Senator Blake Tillery (District 19); Senator Harold Jones (District 22); Senator Bo Hatchett (District 50); Senator Steve Gooch (District 51); and Senator Gloria Butler (District 55). These appointments are effective immediately.”
Sen. Cowsert, the chair of the committee, commented on the matter to the Daily Caller News Foundation as well. He argued that there was “potential misuse of taxpayer dollars for personal gain” and the potential of “unethical behavior,” making the committee and its mission necessary.
Commenting on those matters, Sen. Cowsert said, “I am honored to be chosen to chair this important committee investigating potential misuse of taxpayer dollars for personal gain and unethical behavior by public officials and paid prosecutors. There has been a dramatic decrease in public confidence in the fairness and the impartiality of our criminal justice system. If true, recent allegations related to Fani Willis and Mr. Wade are deeply disturbing.”
