Recently, Rep Charlice Byrd (R-GA) introduced articles of impeachment against the controversial Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. The 6-term incumbent from Woodstock, Georgia, claimed that Willis has abused her office for political gain.
Rep. Byrd, the Georgia Freedom Caucus Chair, announced on social media, “With freedom on the line, bold action is necessary. It’s time for the legislature to do its constitutional duty and hold corrupt Fulton DA Fani WIllis accountable, which is why I have introduced H.R. 872, articles of impeachment against Fani WIllis.”

Byrd claimed Willis is plagued with a “laundry list” of conflicting interests that should disqualify her from her position as District Attorney in Fulton County. The representative continued, asserting that Willis has made a mockery of the state’s statewide and local justice system while abusing her power.
“Fani Willis has a laundry list of potential conflicts that make her unworthy and unfit to be the District Attorney in Fulton County,” Byrd said. “Someone elected to that office is expected to uphold the law and not weaponize their office for political gain. Since Day One when she was elected, Fani Willis has embarrassed the criminal justice system in Fulton County and our state.”
Byrd further criticized Willis indicted Republicans for exercising their First Amendment rights to question the outcome of the 2020 election, where her statement pointed out that this is something Democrats have historically done when the GOP has won a presidential election.
“The First Amendment is still the bedrock of this country and Fan Willis can’t overturn it because she has Trump Derangement Syndrome,” Byrd said. “It’s time our state lawmakers draw a line in the sand and put an end to her refusal to uphold the Constitution.
Ultimately, Rep Byrd concluded that, as an elected official, she must hold Fani Willis accountable for violations of the law, encouraging the Georgia State General Assembly to join her efforts in removing Fani Willis.
“The people demand we do our job as public officials. When the rights of Americans are grossly violated and we stand by, doing nothing, we set precedent that public officials need not concern themselves with the rights of the citizenry,” Byrd said. “This is not a precedent I can live with setting. The time to act is now and I encourage all my colleagues in the General Assembly to join me and impeach Fani Willis.”
Controversy has surfaced surrounding Fani Willis and the Trump prosecution as accusations have arisen implicating her in a romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she appointed. Allegations of financial misconduct have come to light after bank statements appeared to show Wade purchasing plane tickets in her name.
“It certainly looks bad. I would want to see how the two of them respond before saying definitively that this is all disqualifying. But, if these were County funds that were paid to him (and which were authorized by her) for case-related work, and it turns out that the funds were used to pay for romantic getaways by the two of them, that would certainly be disqualifying,” attorney Andrew Fleishman said.
